The Arab Republic of Egypt promulgated the Egyptian Law on Regulation of Nuclear and Radiation Activities no. (7) of 2010 on March 29th, 2010 (the Law) and its amendment by Law no. (211) of 2017 on November 29th, 2017. The prime minister promulgated the executive regulation of the law in 2011. The Law covers safety, security, safeguards, emergency, and liability for all peaceful applications of atomic energy and radiation activities. The Law established an independent regulatory body to monitor all nuclear and radiation facilities, activities and practices known as: “Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority (ENRRA)”, having a public juridical personality, reporting to the Prime Minister, having an independent budget and being centrally located in Cairo.
ENRRA was established on March 5th, 2012. ENRRA is entrusted with regulatory and control functions for safety, security, and safeguards related to the nuclear and radiation fields.
The Authority shall carry out all regulatory and control works related to the nuclear or radiation activities, including to ensure that atomic energy is used for the peaceful purposes and to ensure the safety and protection of humans, property and the environment from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation.
To be a distinguished regulatory authority on the national, regional and international levels for nuclear and radiation safety, nuclear security and safeguards.
