Job Description
As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing various types of heavy equipment, such as bulldozers, excavators, and cranes. Your role will involve diagnosing mechanical issues, performing repairs, and conducting regular maintenance to ensure the equipment is in optimal working condition.
Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair heavy mining and ancillary equipment.
- Respond to mechanical issues both in the maintenance shop and in the field.
- Use hand tools, air and impact tools, sledgehammers, and hydraulic torque equipment.
- Operate materials handling equipment (e.g. Hydraulic jacks and hoists, chains, overhead cranes, slings, come-a-longs).
- Diagnose mechanical problems using Caterpillar testing equipment.
- Repair Caterpillar equipment within the established time standards out in the field or on site.
- Demonstrate safe, environmentally sound and healthy work behaviors at all times.
- Prepare accurate service and repair reports in an accurate and timely manner.
Preferred Candidates:
- Red Seal Certification (Heavy Duty Equipment Technician) is preferred.
- 3-5 years field service experience in an open-pit mine.
- Experience with OEM troubleshooting guides and systems preferred.
- Experience creating parts lists from OEM web-based systems such as Caterpillar SIS preferred.
- Experience repairing haul trucks, shovels, excavators, and other heavy equipment.
- Experience with CAT equipment.
- Able to work 12-hour day and night shifts; on a 7x7 rotation.
- Good English communication skills both oral and written.
