Job Seekers Are Welcoming 2018 with Positivity and Optimism

Like sunrise on the distant horizon, 2018 approaches steadfast. It is no secret that 2017 has borne its share of joy and challenges, and the global economy has been supporting itself as much as possible, but it is time to look at the glass as half full and take life by the reins.

Job seekers are getting the right picture, with more than four in ten job seekers believing they will snatch their dream job in just six months. A deeper look at how job seekers are welcoming the next year based on results from the Bayt.com Job Seeker Confidence Index Survey gives us insight on what job seekers are anticipating the next year in terms of their personal financial situation, the general economy, business opportunities and career growth opportunities.

But why does that matter, you ask?

Let me let you in on a little-known secret: a positive attitude brings positive outcomes! If employable adults are optimistic about job prospects, opportunities and job security, it will be reflected in their attitudes to their work and the economy as a whole. Pessimism can be a total motivation killer at the best of times, so the sunny outlook borne by the majority will help job seekers become more proactive in their continuous journey toward greener pastures. This is why businesses always look at “consumer confidence” and predict their revenues accordingly.

It has also been proven that pessimism can harm the economy. If job seekers are not positive about their job security, personal finance or economy, they will rein in their spending in order to prepare for a future they perceive to be tough. Here’s the irony: doing that will have the effect of worsening economic growth. With less people buying consumer goods and driving the economy, a spending recession could take place and cause an economic downturn.

The survey showed that close to two-fifths (37%) of job seekers believe that their financial situation will improve within the next six months. Job seekers are perceptive about their environment, and harboring better hopes for the future is unlikely to be misplaced optimism.

Similarly, job seekers cut no corners when it came to the economic situation. When it comes to the future, almost a third of job seekers expect the economic situation to improve in the next six months.

When it came to present business conditions, 22% of job seekers believe that current business conditions are good. However, double that amount of job seekers (44%) believe that business conditions will improve in the next six months. What this shows is that although it has been a challenging year, current variables indicate to our job seekers that things are more likely to improve than to get worse.

Numbers aside, it is clear that job seekers are optimistic about the coming year, and it’s time for you all to get ahead of things. Start by updating your CV.
