A Day in the Life of a Commercial Director: Tala Amhaz, ITP

Sales is a job that calls for professionals who are go-getters, multitaskers and expert deal closers. Have you ever wondered how these super achievers plan out their day? What their source of motivation is to keep them going, and what drives them in life? To find out, this week we are featuring a Day in the Life of Tala Amhaz, the Commercial Director of three successful magazines in the Middle East: OK!, Women’s Health and VIVA.

Tala Amhaz has over 10 years of experience in media planning, buying, sales, and corporate communications. She has successfully worked across multiple disciplines, markets and brands. As a self-proclaimed passionate, curious and adventurous soul, she doesn’t believe in doing something unless it moves or motivates her. She loves being in the exciting field of sales and finds it fulfilling as it gives her the opportunity to work with exciting brands and professionals from various backgrounds, with whom she can collaborate creatively across different specializations.

When she's not working, Tala spends her time riding around town on her motorcycle - she owns two beautiful Harley Davidsons! Because of her love for the desert, she sometimes wind up driving her 4X4 during the weekend with friends to catch the sunset and enjoy some BBQ feasting. Tala also freelances with “Beyond the Dunes” to take enthusiasts on exclusive Safari trips.

Tala’s Agenda:

7:30 AM – 8:30 AM I start my mornings with breakfast, while watching comedy shows on TV. Sometime I start my day playing four-letter words on my iPhone.

8:30 AM – 9:00 AM At this time I'm usually racing to the office to be there before 9AM.

9:00 AM – 1:00 PM A lot happens during these first few hours. On a typical day I would have had one or two sales meetings, a coffee or two, and a team meeting.

1:00 – 2:00 PM If I'm falling behind on my emails, my lunch break is usually 20 minutes on my desk. If my time is going well then I'm out enjoying the good weather and a healthy lunch in Dubai Media City. I always try to keep my lunch light so that I don’t fall asleep while working in the afternoon.

2:30 – 7:00 PM By this time I'm back to my office sending proposals and calling clients for meetings.

7:30 PM Here, I'm probably getting ready to leave the office or I'm already at home. I try hard not to stay past 7:30PM in the office. I love what I do so it does tend to extend into my personal life. I don’t have a family of my own yet, but I guess my priorities will automatically change as soon as I start one!

8:00 – 11:00 PM During evenings I try to make it to the gym. My goal is to go at least three times a week, but I usually end up hanging out with my friends, watching a movie, or having dinner. I sometimes read before going to bed, but I'm a slow reader so it takes me ages to finish a book! I have been reading Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts for the past 3 months! I don’t make any plans for the weekend so I try to relax as much as I can. I may also spend the weekend at the beach, reading. For me ‘me time’ is usually in the morning that’s why I wake up super early!
