Oman has officially announced adjusted working hours for the holy month of Ramadan 2025 to accommodate the spiritual and physical needs of those observing the fast. Bayt.com has rounded up the main highlights regarding the official working hours for both the public and private sectors during Ramadan 2025.
The Omani government has set the official working hours for civil administrative units during Ramadan to be five continuous hours, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. To provide flexibility, heads of units are authorized to implement schedules between 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM, tailored to the unit's operational requirements and based on employee arrival and departure times. Remote work is permitted for eligible positions, provided that at least 50% of the unit's staff maintains a physical presence in the workplace.
In the private sector, working hours for Muslim employees are reduced to six hours per day, totaling 30 hours per week. This adjustment ensures that employees can fulfill their work responsibilities while observing the fast.
Astronomical calculations suggest that Ramadan 2025 is expected to begin on Saturday, March 1, 2025. However, the official start date will be confirmed by Omani authorities based on moon sighting closer to the time.
Note: Employees are encouraged to consult official communications from their employers or relevant authorities for confirmed working hours and any updates as the holy month approaches.
