Bayt.com helps raise funds for children in Palestine, with support of Goodwill Journey from Dubai to UK

Bayt.com, the Middle East’s number one job site, has announced its support of the2010 Goodwill Journey, a motorbike ride that will cover40,000 kilometres and pass through36 cities in59 days, in order to raise awareness of the plight of handicapped children in Palestine - and to raise funds to build a school for these disadvantaged children. Bayt.com is a silver sponsor of the initiative which forms part of the company’s committment to help worthy causes in the communities in which it operates.

Setting off from Dubai in the first week of June, Wissam Al Jayoussi, accompanied in some locations by other riders, will drive through Oman, Iran, Jordan, Syria, Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia, Hungary, Slovakia, Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Portugal before ending the journey in the United Kingdom.

Goodwill Journey, which is made up of activists committed to goodwill to heal lives in places torn by war, famine and other perils, has a simple mission: to organise fund-raising events that are fuelled by adventure, discovery and an unwavering quest to push the boundaries of human achievement.

This year’s event is created in collaboration with Hope & Play – a UK-based charity organisation. It is focusing on handicapped children in Gaza and aims to spread awareness and raise funds to build a dedicated school for them, and ensure they have the right equipment, facilities and resources.

“Gaza has been suffering from the latest disproportionate blockade since2007,” said Wissam Al Jayoussi. “This has destroyed lives and left children orphaned, maimed and traumatised, without many schools and generally with very little hope, so this year our plan is to raise money to build a school for children with special needs in Gaza.” Last year the Goodwill Journey scaled Mount Pumori in a climbing initiative to raise funds for women’s education in Palestine.

Bayt.com undertakes a variety of initiatives to help individuals across the region, as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy. These include sponsoring orphans from all over the world on behalf of each and every employee; donating a fixed percentage of its revenues every year to a wide variety of charities around the region and offering free job postings, recruiting services and select banner advertising services to select reputable charitable organisations with clearly established mandates. Locally, Bayt.com also provides a number of services to professionals in the countries in which it operates, including a free CV service and clinic for unemployed professionals and a university outreach programme to empower university students to become valuable member of their local workforces.

Rabea Ataya, CEO Bayt.com commented ''Bayt.com is firmly committed to the regions in which it operates and every year we undertake to initiate or support key endeavours that better the lives of those in our regions.”

Once the Goodwill Journey begins, Wissam and his team’s progress can be followed live through an interactive map linked to the main Bayt.com website.
