Title: Technician: Chemical & Process Engineering

Main Activities/Responsibilities:


1. Prepare, set up, and maintain laboratory equipment and materials for teaching activities.


2. Assist academic staff and students in conducting laboratory experiments related to Chemical and Process engineering, including but not limited to 2nd year, 3rd year teaching laboratories and engineering applications laboratory classes.


3. Ensure that laboratory spaces are safe, clean, and well-organized. Maintain laboratory inventory and order supplies and materials as needed.


4. Provide technical support and guidance to undergraduate students during practical sessions.


5. Responsible for the operation and maintenance of a specific laboratory environment as deemed appropriate by line manager.


6. Provide practical support for Undergraduate student lab activities including advising and providing support on teaching experiments.


7. Ensure hazardous waste is properly identified, contained, and disposed of in accordance with local rules.


8. Oversee the work of and delegate tasks to other technicians as deemed appropriate by line manager.


9. Consult with academic staff in the preparation of work activities for teaching. Ensure equipment is available and functional to enable the laboratories run successfully.


10. Liaise with suppliers and contractors on servicing, repairing, and testing of laboratory equipment.


11. Ensure Health and safety regulations are adhered to and advise users accordingly. Responsible for safe operation of all laboratory equipment within the bounds of university and HSE regulations. Ensure all health and safety aspects are addressed within laboratory area. e.g., prepare and produce Risk Assessments, COSHH, safety training, maintaining safety records, equipment maintenance and repair

Qualification Required


Educated to at least Higher National Certificate (HNC) level or equivalent in Engineering/Science or related discipline


Additional qualifications and training in lab-based skills e.g., health and safety, laboratory skills etc. including general chemistry.
