Team Lead- Molecular

The Molecular Biology Team Lead is responsible for the accurate and precise performance of the Molecular Biology section operation at all shifts. Perform complex technical work involving molecular analysis of human biological materials. Job duties include a combination of the following responsibilities: extensive and complex steps requiring manual manipulation and pipetting, close monitoring and control, evaluation of data, and careful and accurate work. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Ensures operation of RT-PCR analyzers, and other laboratory equipment by calibrating; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
• Performs CAP Proficiency testing as required and DHA External Quality Control. 
• Maintains laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
• Provides a healthy and safe working environment by maintaining cleanliness in the laboratory and practicing preventive measures.
• Prepare samples for analysis.
• Performs routine laboratory testing as per departmental policies and procedures.
• Communicates critical, urgent, and abnormal results with ordering physicians.
• Communicates with nursing and physicians on patient preparation, sample collection and integrity.
• Prioritizes workload in an efficient productive manner. 
• Assists in maintaining CAP standards and DHA regulations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Promotes ethical practices & maintain patient confidentiality.
• Evaluate specimens received by the department and organize workflow to provide.
• Optimum efficiency of testing and turnaround time of results
• Extract, denature and purify DNA from assorted specimen types.
• Perform PCR, hybridization, and genetic sequencing methods.
• Record data to monitor temperatures of incubation equipment.
• Evaluate inventory of supplies and reagents and communicate order needs.
• Maintain records of test results and archives of data.
• Operate complex equipment and computer programs related to equipment and LIS System.
• Maintain equipment by performing assigned maintenance activities and

troubleshoot unexpected problems with equipment.

• Perform quality control, validation, and other quality activities to verifyperformance of clinical assays.
• Evaluate results to determine interference, inhibition, or other problems that arise.
• during extraction, amplification, or sequencing of DNA.
• Serves as the quality link for assigned section(s)

Quality Link Duties and Responsibilities:

• Meets with Laboratory’s Quality team on regular basis to discuss quality issues and concerns.
• Reviews daily QC and investigates violations and biases, as required.
• Review Proficiency Testing evaluations and performs investigations as required.
• Investigates incident and complaints related to assigned section(s)
• Assists with tabulating monthly statistics, KPIs and workload data.
• Assists section supervisors in performing Method Evaluation, Validation and Set-up

QUALIFICATIONS:

• BSc in Medical Laboratory Technology/ Medical Laboratory Science or Biomedical Science
• Current/Valid Dubai Health Authority (DHA) License
• Minimum of six (6) years of experience in a related field
• Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of laboratory and general computer applications is preferred.
• Knowledge of Accreditation Practices (e.g., CAP, JCIA)
