About the Department: Student Services provide programs, services, and resources that enhance student life outside of the classroom, promote student engagement and success, and foster a sense of belonging and community on campus.
The role of Student Counsellor is a key service position at UOWD. It is crucial in ensuring that UOWD students are appropriately supported as they progress through their studies at the University and contributing to a holistic approach to student wellbeing. The Student Counsellor provides confidential, free and culturally appropriate counselling services, in accordance with professional standards and practices.
Requirements & Responsibilities: Requirements
A working knowledge of different theories of counselling practice.
An easy, outgoing attitude with students
A high level of both written and oral English skills.
Effective communicator & team player
Sense of humour and ability to use common sense.
Patience, persistence and integrity.
Show an ongoing, original/flexible approach to work tasks, and environment.
Actively participate in promoting a culture of mental health awareness and support on campus, including through workshops, resource fairs, and outreach initiatives.
Key responsibilities;
Provision of counselling services for students
Management of personal development skills for students
Day to day coordination of counselling services along with the full time student counsellor
Communication and information development
Qualifications & Experience: Essential:
A relevant tertiary qualification in counselling, preferably at the postgraduate level, together with related and appropriate practical clinical/community experience
Experience in a variety of counselling techniques, including working with groups or team counselling.
Experience in working with persons of different cultures.
Experience in delivering workshops and seminars on personal development topics.
Experience in working with young adults
Desirable:
Education sector experience
Compensation & Benefits: The successful candidate will enjoy interaction with a professional and dynamic team of highly respected educators from over 30 different countries and exposure to students from over 105 nationalities.
This is a part time role - 30 hours/week during term time only. The university operates on a trimester model with 11 teaching weeks per trimester.
Applicants must have their own UAE residence visa and be able to provide a NOC from the sponsor.
The University is located in Knowledge Park, Dubai and has excellent teaching, learning and research facilities as well as access to Library resources that meets international standards.
