PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The purpose of the job of a Senior Material and Corrosion Engineer is to ensure the integrity, safety, and longevity of materials used in oil and gas projects. This role is critical in selecting appropriate materials, assessing potential corrosion risks, and implementing strategies to prevent or mitigate corrosion-related issues. By doing so, the Senior Material and Corrosion Engineer helps prevent equipment failures, minimize maintenance costs, and ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations. Their work directly contributes to the reliability and efficiency of oil and gas operations, ultimately protecting both the project's investment and the environment.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  •  Lead the selection of materials for various components in oil and gas projects, ensuring compatibility with environmental conditions and project specifications.
  • Evaluate material performance under different operational conditions, including high temperature, high pressure, and corrosive environments.
  • Ensure materials selected meet all relevant industry standards and codes, such as API, ASTM, NACE, and ISO.
  • Conduct detailed corrosion assessments, including predictive modeling and simulations, to identify potential corrosion risks.
  • Develop and implement corrosion control strategies, including cathodic protection, coatings, and material upgrades.
  • Review and interpret corrosion monitoring data to recommend corrective actions and improvements.
  • Provide technical guidance on material and corrosion-related issues to engineering teams during the design phase.
Review and approve engineering drawings, specifications, and material data sheets to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Participate in design reviews, HAZID/HAZOP studies, and risk assessments related to materials and corrosion.
  • Evaluate and qualify vendors and suppliers for materials and corrosion-related products.
  • Review and approve material test reports, certificates of compliance, and supplier quality documents.
  • Ensure that suppliers adhere to project specifications and industry standards.
  • Develop and implement material and corrosion quality assurance plans.
  • Conduct audits and inspections of materials, coatings, and corrosion protection systems during fabrication and installation.
  • Ensure traceability and documentation of all material-related activities.
  • Prepare and manage project budgets and schedules related to materials and corrosion engineering.
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential issues, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation for project stakeholders.
  • Ensure all material and corrosion engineering activities comply with local, national, and international standards and regulations.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in material science and corrosion engineering, and apply new technologies and practices to the project.
  • Provide mentorship and technical training to junior engineers and other team members.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in resolving complex material and corrosion issues.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Corrosion Engineering, or a related field. A Masters degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 12-15 years of experience in material and corrosion engineering within the oil and gas industry.
  • Strong knowledge of material selection, corrosion mechanisms, and mitigation strategies in oil and gas environments.
  • Proficiency in industry standards and codes such as API, ASTM, NACE, and ISO.
  • Experience with corrosion modeling software and material performance simulations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Professional certifications in corrosion engineering (e.g., NACE) are highly desirable.
