While the EMEA Privacy team is mainly headquartered in Amsterdam, the team includes members spread across the EMEA region, working in close collaboration with each other and with the wider Global Legal Team, including specialist experts based in San Francisco.We’re looking for an exceptional attorney based in the MEA HQ in Dubai, to advise on the Careem Rides business in the MENA region, with expertise in local and global data protection laws, as well as a commercial acumen and excellent stakeholder management skills. What you’ll doAdvise local teams of the Careem Rides business in the MEA region on privacy, consumer protection, marketing and e-commerce issuesBe part of the broader Careem Rides and Uber privacy legal team to help optimize the synergies for the businessFollow up on data requests by data subjects, law enforcement agencies and third parties Provide privacy and marketing law trainings and respond to spam and advertising complaints and interact with regulators, as neededAdvise on data protection and privacy aspects of contracts, business development agreements, and acquisitionsAdvise on data protection and privacy issues during development of new products and initiativesDo research on new legislation, advise on impact for the business, and work with policy teams to minimize impactWhat you’ll need8+ years data protection experience, preferably at a mid to large size law firm, and/or inhouse at a tech-companySubstantive knowledge and demonstrated expertise in MEA data protection and privacy laws, including Morocco, Pakistan, UAE, Kuwait, Iran, KSA, Bahrain, Jordan, Egypt and moreKnowledge about GDPR, and other legal areas such as ML and AI a plusExperience in dealing with data protection investigations and litigationExpertise or familiarity with ads and marketing privacy legal frameworksExcellent business judgment, communication and interpersonal skillsEnthusiasm for taking on new responsibilities, even if outside areas of expertiseAble to work in extremely fast-paced environment under direction of manager, collaboratively, and autonomouslyWritten and spoken fluency in English required; spoken fluency or basic knowledge of Arabic or other languages is a plusWhat we’ll provide youWe offer colleagues the opportunity to drive impact in the region while they learn and grow.
