Laboratory Setup and Maintenance


•Prepare and maintain research and teaching laboratories, ensuring that equipment and materials are available, functional, and calibrated.


•Oversee the setup of experiments and practical sessions for research and teaching, including handling reagents, tools, and specimens.


Equipment Management


•Manage the inventory, maintenance, and repair of laboratory equipment, ensuring compliance with safety standards and operational readiness.


•Provide technical support for the use of specialized laboratory equipment by students, faculty, and researchers.


Research Support


•Assist researchers with the design, execution, and troubleshooting of experiments, providing technical expertise in laboratory procedures and protocols.


•Prepare and handle biological, chemical, and physical samples for research, ensuring accurate processing and data collection.


Support for Animal Facility Operations


•Assist in the management and maintenance of the animal research facility


•Ensuring compliance with ethical guidelines and regulatory standards.


•Provide technical support for animal care, husbandry, and experimental procedures, and collaborate with researchers to facilitate studies involving animal models.


Teaching Laboratory Assistance


•Assist academic staff in preparing and delivering practical teaching sessions, demonstrations, and experiments for undergraduate and postgraduate students.


•Support students during laboratory sessions by demonstrating techniques, ensuring proper usage of equipment, and maintaining a safe learning environment.


Safety and Compliance


•Ensure that laboratories comply with institutional, national, and international safety regulations, including proper disposal of hazardous materials and adherence to biosafety protocols.


•Conduct regular safety audits, maintain safety documentation, and ensure that students and staff adhere to safety guidelines during experiments.


Inventory Management


•Manage the ordering, inventory, and storage of laboratory consumables, chemicals, and supplies, ensuring availability and tracking usage.


•Keep accurate records of inventory, procurement, and laboratory materials used for both research and teaching purposes.


Training and Supervision


•Provide training to students, researchers, and staff on laboratory techniques, equipment operation, and safety procedures.


•Supervise student assistants and lab users to ensure proper laboratory etiquette, safety, and correct use of materials and equipment.


Record Keeping and Data Management


•Maintain accurate records of laboratory activities, experiments, results, and equipment usage.


•Assist with data collection, analysis, and reporting for research projects, ensuring proper documentation and storage of research findings.


Collaboration and Communication


•Collaborate with academic staff, researchers, and the Deanship of Research to support ongoing projects, initiatives, and curriculum development.


•Participate in meetings, planning sessions, and discussions related to lab operations and research activities.


Quality Control and Improvement


•Implement and monitor quality control measures for laboratory activities, ensuring that experiments and practicals are conducted according to high standards of accuracy and reproducibility.


•Identify and implement improvements in laboratory operations to enhance efficiency, safety, and quality of research and teaching outcomes.


Additional Duties as assigned


Performs other responsibilities and tasks as directed by the reporting manager in order to meet organizational objectives.


Developmental Responsibilities


•Familiarize and learn the core processes in the Deanship of Research and Graduate Studies Administration Office, in specific related to Research Integrity to demonstrate multi-skilling competence.


•Defines performance goals at the start of the year in discussion with the reporting manager and ensures that the goals are monitored and achieved during the course of the year.


•Takes ownership of his/her own learning agenda by identifying development needs in consultation with the reporting manager and working towards bridging the gaps through various means which go beyond just training.


•Understands the competencies relevant to his/her role and works towards displaying as well as developing these effectively.


Keeps abreast of relevant professional/industry developments, new techniques and current issues through continued education and professional networks.


Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences


A minimum of 3-5 years of experience (Recommended experience working in an animal unit).
