Lab Instructor - Data Science

A lab instructor is sought to support students and faculty of the Computer Information Science division. The candidate will lead lab sessions and provide hands-on instruction in all areas of data science tools and mentor students through assignments or projects. The candidate will foster a positive and collaborative learning environment that ignites a passion for learning with students.

In support of Emiratization, HCT may exercise flexibility with the experience or education requirement in order to recruit UAE National candidates who show potential for success in the role.

• Bachelorâs / Masterâs in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
• Relevant certifications in the following areas are highly desirable:
• Data science methodologies, and best practices.
• Python and R (experience with other data science languages a plus).
• Data manipulation / visualization tools such as Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, Seaborn, Tableau, Power BI, RapidMiner

 

• Preference is given to candidates with at least 3 years of industry experience in data analytics / data science
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, and ability to explain complex concept clearly and concisely
• Demonstrated competency to interact with people at all levels of an organization
• The ability to work collaboratively or effectively as part of a team in a multi-cultural environment
• A demonstrated willingness to engage in professional development activities in order to improve current skills and acquire new skills, and to adapt to the evolving needs of the organization
• Previous teaching assistant experience in a higher education setting is preferred

• Lead data science lab sessions that are aligned with curriculum objectives.
• Demonstrate proficiency in data acquisition methods, data cleaning and manipulation techniques (e.g., Pandas, NumPy), data analysis approaches (statistical methods, machine learning algorithms), and data visualization technologies and tools (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI).
• Provide hands-on instruction in programming languages fundamental to data science (Python, R, SQL, NoSQL, data manipulation libraries).
• Mentor students throughout the project development process, from problem definition to data collection, analysis, interpretation, and communication of results.
• Cultivate a collaborative learning environment that encourages experimentation, critical thinking, and innovation.
• Stay current with advancements in data science, machine learning, and big data technologies, including Hadoop, Hive, Pig, Spark, etc.
• Collaborate with faculty to refine course materials and lab exercises
