Arcadia British School (ABS) is seeking the appointment of an inspirational
Director of Sports to join our talented and committed team in August 2025. Arcadia is the flagship school of the Arcadia Education Group and boasts two state-of-the-art campuses in the Jumeirah Village Triangle area of Dubai, which include two sports halls, a full-size 4G LED lit Astroturf pitch, a 25-metre performance pool, primary training pool, climbing wall and fitness centre. Hosting over 1300 students, Arcadia places sport and physical education as one of their seven pillars of student development and currently hosts over 120 teams from U8 to U16 levels with focus sports being football, netball, rugby 7's, swimming and athletics. Over the last two years, the school has grown a programme which focuses on excellence through a sport-for-all philosophy, competing against top-performing schools in Dubai and the Middle East.
The successful candidate will have a passion for sport and physical education, having competed at a significant level in one or more focus areas and have a proven track record in the development of multiple sports within previous roles. The Director of Sports will be responsible for the growth and development of a team of 12 coaching and teaching staff and should be comfortable managing a significant portfolio of assignments alongside their reduced teaching load. The main responsibilities will include:
- To increase the participation and performance levels of students in sport and physical recreation;
- To direct and manage the school sport and physical recreation programmes by effectively providing highly skilled Leadership, administration, communication, and resource management;
- To model and promote the school values and learning ethos;
- To contribute to the review and development of school policy and practices;
- To maximise revenue on facility hire relevant to sport;
- To ensure the quality of external provision to support sports development outside of school hours;
- To provide oversight of the curriculum provision for students across both divisions from EYFS to Year 13;
- To oversee and execute the sport and physical recreation action plan designed to promote the experiences of a healthy lifestyle and positive well-being.
Arcadia remains passionate about sport and has a very strong parent following for fixtures, tournaments and activities. The Director of Sport will be expected to continue to promote this important social development whilst ensuring competitors have a focused pathway to success.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the independent school sporting philosophy within an international school context and should have experience in this role previously at either whole school, divisional or individual sport leadership levels. The role will require time and dedication and the ability to inspire other department members to give the same. Arcadia has built a reputation of sporting excellence and commitment in the region and the new Director of Sport will be leading this further forward.
Successful candidates must have a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree with PE/Sports Science specialism and a teaching qualification such as BEd, MEd, PGCE or equivalent.
Arcadia offers a very competitive salary and benefits package and the successful candidate will be a member of the ALT (Associate Leadership Team), working alongside other senior staff to promote the strategic vision of the school.
Initial long-list candidates will be interviewed through a digital platform or may be invited to the school if they are residents of the UAE. Long-list interviews will begin the week commencing 17th March.
