Develops, implements, and monitors the hospital-wide risk management program taking a proactive approach to help minimize and mitigate risks.
Develops robust mechanisms and performance management to ensure that patient safety incidents including near misses are reported and managed appropriately in line with AHD policies ensuring internal and external deadlines are met and actions implemented accordingly.
Develops and fosters internal l risk identification mechanisms including, but not limited to incident reports, medical record reviews, clinical audits, patient complaints, claims and risk assessments.
Ensures a strong overview of the progress of incident investigations and ensures the Chief Quality Officer is informed of any issues or risks.
Leads the process for reporting and updating information relating to patient safety incidents and near misses.
Liaises with Legal Counsel ensuring accurate and timely information is provided.
Directs claims handling and defence preparation activities of the defence counsel.
Oversees the collection, analysis and presentation of quantitative and qualitative risk management data (Incidents, complaints, claims) to measure the effects of change and monitor continuous improvement.
Ensures compliance with local rules and regulations concerning patient care, incident reporting, investigation activities, lawsuits and appeals.
Participates in management reviews of insurance coverage and risk financing activities.
Facilitates proactive risk reduction activities using such tools as Failure Mode Effect Analysis and Hazard Vulnerability Analysis.
Ensures an all-year-round clinical audit program is in place.
Monitors the results of the clinical audits and ensures a plan is put in place to address the findings.
Ensures that compliments and complaints are handled daily.
Analyzes the trending problematic areas and ensures a plan is put in place to address them.
Directs and conducts educational sessions on risk management for medical staff and employees.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent professional qualification (current license preferred)
Master's Degree in Risk Management or related healthcare field
Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM)
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
Minimum five (5) years of clinical experience in an acute care setting in an international hospital.
Minimum five (5) years of experience in healthcare risk management.
Proven knowledge of system process analysis, quality/process improvement techniques, design, and integration, at a level of complexity associated with integrating processes across multiple departments of the organization
Knowledge of principles, methods, procedures and current trends in health information data management.
Knowledge of accreditation programs and surveys and thorough knowledge of developing standards, policies and procedures.
Must be competent and have influencing skills at a strategic level
Must have skills in managing large, complex projects and initiatives.
Ability to solve problem, evaluate, plan, and direct process improvement projects for all clinical departments.
Ability to develop innovative and creative solutions to achieve organization objectives within clinical improvement setting
