The Role of Director of Design and Innovation:


We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Director of Interior Design to join our Four Seasons Corporate Office team in Dubai on a 10-month fixed-term contract!  There is potential for this position to become a permanent role, depending on business needs.


This role reports to the Senior Director of Interior Design and will be responsible for all aspects of interior design for a shared portfolio of new build, renovation, and conversion projects and providing property opening support in EMEA. 


As Director of Interior Design, you will oversee design on new builds, renovations, and conversions; reviewing design from concept through construction documents and specifications; and provide detailed comments to ensure design meets brand standards and creates a superior quality, relevant product.  You will assist with sourcing potential Interior Designers and Art Consultants, and providing same for project-specific recommendations, assist with keeping Design Standards current, write Design Narratives, conduct new designer orientations, and arrange and attend design presentations. 


You will provide property opening support, supporting the General Manager and On-Site Lead on-boarding presentations, creating Look Books for properties at Pre-Opening Phase to guide the Operations team with curating guest rooms & public areas per Design Vision, and you will liaise with Portfolio Management and Planning & Integration teams on property opening.


Our Ideal Director of Interior Design candidate will have:


A degree in Interior Design or Architecture (with a focus on interiors), a minimum of 10 years’ experience in an international design firm with a focus on hospitality design, and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in Hotel Operator Design Services, including in-depth experience with renovation and conversion projects. 


The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of architectural and interior design process and documentation, knowledge of graphic design as applied to Design Narratives, signage and collateral, strong space planning, FF&E specification writing, millwork drawings review skills, and understanding of Lighting Design. 


An appreciation of the fiscal landscape and an understanding of individual property’s appetite by ownership for proposed renovations, as well as an ability to assess the physical product (i.e., understand, develop, and write a potential scope of work for renovation or repositioning of the property), is a fundamental requirement.


This role requires a team player with a strong initiative, self-motivation, the ability to work on and prioritize multiple projects and adapt well to changing priorities, be a creative problem solver, have exceptional communication skills to inspire design vision, and ensure proactive refinements to the product as new learnings surface.


This position will be based in Dubai on a 10-month fixed-term contract with the potential to become a permanent role, depending on business needs.  You should be comfortable with travel as needed to properties; anticipated to be 60 – 70 travel days per year.
