Role SummaryRole SummaryA core element of our Advisory Practice is our long-standing work in the Middle East.  The Tony Blair Institute (TBI) is looking to hire an exceptional Director to lead regional engagements. Reporting to TBI’s Senior Directors, this Director will be responsible for leading client-facing engagements, both in-country and from our regional hub in the UAE.  The Director will also support business development and develop the next generation of advisory leaders within TBI.This is an exciting senior leadership opportunity requiring exceptional candidates with relevant experience and expertise.Key Responsibilities
As a Director, you will have the following key responsibilities:
Client Leadership·Build and maintain trusted relationships with senior government leaders, including heads of state, heads of government, and ministers.·Serve as a trusted advisor, helping senior leaders set strategic agendas, identify solutions, and deliver impactful change.·Hold ultimate accountability for the quality, timeliness, and scope of all client-facing deliverables.·Leverage TBI’s expertise and resources to consistently deliver world-class solutions for clients.Team Leadership·Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing team with diverse backgrounds and expertise.·Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture focused on excellence, innovation, and continuous learning.·Develop the next generation of advisory leaders within TBI, ensuring a pipeline of talent equipped to drive client success.Business Development·Drive the growth of TBI’s regional engagements through business development and practice-building activities.·Develop compelling value propositions for clients, particularly within the GCC region, and navigate public procurement processes effectively.
Regional Leadership·Serve as a core member of the regional leadership team, reporting to the Senior Director.·Provide strategic advice to TBI’s Executive Chairman, CEO, and leadership team.·Champion TBI’s values, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and a high-performing, collaborative culture.Internal Collaboration and Culture·Actively engage with TBI’s global leadership cohort, fostering cross-regional collaboration and knowledge sharing.·Embed a high-performing culture focused on professional development, innovation, and impact.Person Specification
The ideal candidate for this role will possess the following:Professional Experience and Expertise·At least 10 years of professional experience working with governments, international organizations, management consulting firms, political risk firms, international law firms, or think tanks.·At least 4 years of experience in a management consulting firm, with demonstrable expertise in people management.·Significant experience and a proven track record of delivering engagements aligned with ambitious political agendas, ideally in the MENA region.·Expertise in advising governments on leveraging technology for digital transformation, advanced analytics, and artificial intelligence.·Demonstrated success in managing complex business development efforts in the GCC region, including crafting winning proposals for public procurement systems.Leadership and Team Management·A track record of leading high-performing, multicultural teams, fostering collaboration, and supporting colleagues’ growth and well-being.·Exceptional emotional intelligence, communication, and interpersonal skills to thrive in a matrixed, fast-paced environment.·Proven ability to inspire, mentor, and drive results within a dynamic and entrepreneurial organization.Technical and Strategic Skills·Expertise in Digital Transformation and AI Implementation: Demonstrated experience in national-level digital transformation projects, with a focus on integrating artificial intelligence to enhance government operations and public service delivery.·Strategic Advisory Proficiency: Proven ability to advise senior government officials, including ministers and department heads, on formulating and executing digital strategies that align with national objectives and leverage emerging technologies.·In-Depth Knowledge of Emerging Technologies: Comprehensive understanding of the current technology landscape, including AI, machine learning, data analytics, and their practical applications in the public sector.·Change Management Acumen: Skilled in identifying and addressing challenges inherent in digital transformation, such as organizational resistance, skill gaps, and infrastructure limitations, ensuring smooth transitions and sustainable adoption.·Exceptional Communication and Stakeholder Engagement: Ability to convey complex technical concepts in a clear and compelling manner to diverse audiences, fostering stakeholder buy-in and facilitating informed decision-making.Qualifications and Other Requirements·Advanced degrees from globally reputable institutions (MBA, MPA/MPP, JD, or PhD preferred).·High level of comfort managing multiple diverse workstreams and driving results in fast-paced environments.·Willingness to travel extensively across the region (up to 80%) and foster an in-office culture.
