Chief Engineer (Gas Carrier)

Position Overview:
Our client is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Chief Engineer with a background in gas carriers to oversee the technical operations and maintenance of their LNG/LPG vessels. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of gas carrier systems, machinery, and safety standards, ensuring smooth, efficient, and safe operations of the vessel. The Chief Engineer will be responsible for the maintenance, operation, and troubleshooting of all engine room systems and equipment, as well as ensuring compliance with maritime regulations and safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

• Engine Room Management: Oversee all technical operations within the engine room, ensuring the safe and efficient functioning of all mechanical and electrical systems on board the gas carrier.
• Maintenance & Repairs: Supervise and coordinate routine maintenance and emergency repairs of all machinery and systems, including propulsion, cargo systems, power generation, and refrigeration systems.
• Safety Compliance: Ensure the vessel complies with all safety regulations related to machinery operations, including those specific to gas carriers, such as gas detection, ventilation systems, and cargo containment.
• Troubleshooting & Problem Solving: Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and operational issues to minimize downtime and maintain the vessel’s operational readiness.
• Crew Supervision & Training: Lead and manage engine room staff, providing training and guidance on safe operational procedures, maintenance tasks, and emergency response protocols.
• Environmental & Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with international maritime regulations (e.g., IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL), as well as industry-specific regulations governing gas carriers and environmental protection.
• Logbooks & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of engine room operations, maintenance activities, and any incidents, ensuring all documentation is in compliance with company and regulatory standards.
• Operational Efficiency: Monitor fuel consumption, machinery performance, and operational efficiency to optimize the vessel’s performance and minimize operational costs.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Certifications:
  • Chief Engineer License (STCW 95) with valid endorsement for gas carrier operations (LNG/LPG).
  • Valid STCW medical certification.
  • Additional certifications specific to gas carrier machinery and operations are a plus.
• Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as Chief Engineer on LNG or LPG carriers.
  • In-depth knowledge of engine room systems, including propulsion, refrigeration, and gas handling equipment specific to gas carriers.
• Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage and train engine room staff.
  • Expertise in troubleshooting complex mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of gas carrier-specific systems, safety protocols, and environmental regulations.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
