Job Summary
Rock Petroleum is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Assistant Technical Superintendent to oversee technical aspects of our shipping operations. The Assistant Technical Superintendent will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of vessels, compliance with regulations, and maintenance of technical standards.
Job Responsibilities
As a Technical Superintendent, your responsibilities will include:
- Vessel Maintenance: Plan and oversee maintenance, repairs, and dry-dockings of vessels to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Technical Support: Provide technical support and guidance to vessel crews and shore-based staff on engineering, mechanical, and electrical systems.
- Safety Management: Implement and maintain safety management systems (SMS) and ensure compliance with international safety regulations (ISM, ISPS, SOLAS).
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with international regulations and standards governing vessel operations, including classification society rules, flag state requirements, and environmental regulations.
- Budget Management: Develop and manage technical budgets for vessel maintenance, repairs, and spare parts. Monitor expenditure and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Risk Assessment: Conduct risk assessments and implement risk management measures to mitigate operational risks and ensure the safety of personnel and assets.
- Emergency Response: Develop and implement emergency response plans and procedures for incidents such as oil spills, collisions, and machinery failures.
- Performance Monitoring: Monitor vessel performance, including fuel consumption, engine efficiency, and machinery reliability. Identify opportunities to optimize performance and reduce operating costs.
- Supplier Management: Manage relationships with suppliers, contractors, and service providers for technical services, spare parts, and equipment. Ensure quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of services.
- Reporting and Documentation: Prepare technical reports, maintenance records, and compliance documentation. Ensure accurate and timely reporting to regulatory authorities and internal stakeholders.
Qualifications and Experience
To be successful in this role, you should:
- Hold a bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field.
- A Chief Engineer's license or equivalent qualification is preferred.
- Have at least 5-7 years of experience in marine engineering or ship management, with a proven track record of technical leadership.
- Have a minimum of 2 years of experience as a Chief Engineer or at least 1 year as a Technical Superintendent.
- Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of marine engineering systems, equipment, and regulations.
- Possess strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Show excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Be familiar with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and other technical software.
- Prior experience as a Chief Engineer or Technical Superintendent in the shipping industry is preferred.
- Have 10-15 years of experience in Oil Tankers or similar large vessels.
