Position Overview:
The Senior Lawyer will provide strategic and operational legal support across the company’s business units. This role involves managing complex legal matters, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, and mitigating risks while supporting the company’s growth and operational goals. The Senior Lawyer will serve as a key advisor to the Head of Legal and other senior stakeholders, ensuring the company adheres to applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards.
Key Responsibilities;
Legal Advisory
Provide legal advice and support on a wide range of corporate, commercial, and regulatory matters.
Draft, review, and negotiate high-value contracts, including joint ventures, supply agreements, and M&A transactions.
Advise on regulatory compliance requirements specific to the energy sector, including environmental and safety regulations, licensing, and energy market rules.
Anticipate legal risks and provide proactive solutions to mitigate them.
Dispute Resolution and Litigation
Oversee litigation, arbitration, and other dispute resolution proceedings and communicate effectively to Head of Legal .
Manage relationships with external counsel and monitor their performance and cost-effectiveness.
Represent the company in negotiations and mediations where necessary.
Corporate Governance
Support the Head of Legal in ensuring adherence to corporate governance standards.
Compliance and Risk Management
Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Conduct training sessions for employees on legal and regulatory matters.
Monitor and report on emerging legal and regulatory developments that may impact the business. Specifically with regards to Data Privacy and Anti Trust.
Leadership and Mentorship
Lead and mentor junior legal team members, fostering professional growth and knowledge sharing.
Act as a role model, demonstrating the company’s values and ethical principles.
Education and Licensing
A Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) or equivalent and a Master’s degree (LLM) or other relevant advanced qualification.
Admission to the bar or equivalent legal accreditation in the relevant jurisdiction(s).
Experience
A minimum of 10-12 years of post-qualification experience in corporate and commercial law, with significant exposure to the energy sector.
Proven track record in managing complex legal transactions, including M&A, joint ventures, and high-value contracts.
Experience in regulatory compliance, especially in the energy, oil, and gas industries, is highly desirable.
Experience managing litigation and external legal counsel effectively.
Skills and Competencies
Strong understanding of energy sector regulations and trends.
Exceptional analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. In Local Language as in English.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts to non-legal audiences.
Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
High level of integrity, professionalism, and ethical judgment.
Technology
Proficiency with legal research tools and corporate legal management systems.
Familiarity with contract lifecycle management software is a plus.
