Position Overview
The Cold Store Supervisor will oversee the operations of a cold storage facility specializing in fresh fruits and vegetables. The role requires
efficient receiving, storage and handling of highly perishable goods to maintain product quality and minimize waste. The Store Supervisor will possess strong leadership skills, expertise in cold chain logistics, and a deep understanding of fresh produce handling.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Operational Management:
o Supervise daily operations of the cold storage facility, including receiving, quality control, sorting, and storing of fresh produce.
o Ensure optimal temperature and humidity levels for various fruits and vegetables to maintain freshness and quality.
o Implement and monitor standard operating procedures (SOPs) specific to the fresh produce industry.
o Plan workforce allocation by strategizing daily and weekly for sales teams, prioritizing efficient manpower utilization and
optimizing output.
o Work closely with the Sales team and wholesale team specifically to plan daily ripening activities.
2. Product Quality and Handling:
o Oversee the proper storage and handling of fresh produce to prevent damage, spoilage, and waste.
o Conduct regular quality checks to ensure compliance with product specifications and quality standards.
o Coordinate closely with the quality assurance team to address any quality-related concerns.
3. Inventory and Stock Management:
o Manage stock rotation using FIFO (First-In, First-Out) principles to reduce waste.
o Conduct daily stock counts and maintain accurate inventory records.
o Ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment while monitoring shelf life and product turnover.
4. Team Leadership:
o Lead, train, and supervise the cold store team to ensure smooth operations and adherence to protocols.
o Schedule and allocate tasks based on operational priorities and team capabilities.
o Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and safety within the facility.
5. Safety and Compliance:
o Ensure compliance with health, safety, and food safety standards specific to fresh produce handling.
o Monitor and enforce proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to hygiene practices.
o Conduct regular safety inspections and address any hazards or incidents promptly in coordination with the Safety Officer .
6. Equipment and Facility Maintenance:
o Ensure cold storage equipment, such as refrigeration units are functioning effectively.
o Coordinate with maintenance team for repairs to minimize downtime.
o Maintain cleanliness and organization of the facility to meet industry standards.
7. Reporting and Communication:
o Prepare regular reports on operational performance, stock levels, and waste management.
o Analyze data to identify trends and recommend improvements in processes.
o Coordinate with procurement, sales, and logistics teams to ensure smooth operations.
Education and Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent is or additional education in a relevant field such as logistics, supply chain management, may be beneficial.
• Previous experience of 5 years in a cold storage or warehouse environment is often preferred.
• Experience in inventory management and quality control is highly desirable.
• Supervisory or leadership experience, even in a different industry, can be valuable.
• Familiarity with food safety regulations and cold chain management practices is advantageous.
Working Conditions:
• Work in a cold storage environment with temperatures ranging between 0°C and 13°C.
• Flexibility to work extended hours, weekends, or holidays based on seasonal and operational demands.
