ROLE PURPOSE
The Senior Manager - Business Development will lead the strategy, implementation and upgrades of Partnership Projects, including cutting-edge AI platforms that drive District Energy business innovation and operational excellence. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and experience in managing cross-functional teams to deliver scalable AI solutions.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for technology, knowledge of AI/ML, and a proven track record in the Utilities space, platform development, product management and financial and contracting experience.
ROLE COMPETENCIES & ACTIVITIES
The Senior Manager - Business Development’s responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
Leadership and Strategy
- Define the vision, strategy, and roadmap for AI platform development to meet current and future business needs.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to align AI platform initiatives with business objectives.
- Drive innovation by identifying emerging AI trends, tools, and technologies.
Platform Design and Development
- Oversee the design, architecture, and development of scalable AI platforms.
- Ensure integration with existing systems and tools to enable seamless data flow and model deployment.
- Drive the adoption of best practices for AI/ML development, including model training, testing, and deployment.
Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and grow a multidisciplinary team of AI engineers, data scientists, and software developers.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Set performance goals and conduct regular evaluations to ensure team success.
Project Management
- Manage the delivery of AI platform projects on time, within budget, and to specification.
- Establish KPIs to measure the success of platform initiatives and make data-driven decisions.
- Monitor project risks and develop mitigation plans as necessary.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders related to AI platform initiatives.
- Work closely with data engineering, product, and IT teams to ensure alignment and successful execution.
- Present platform capabilities, outcomes, and strategic plans to executive leadership.
Compliance and Governance
- Ensure adherence to industry standards, data privacy regulations, and ethical guidelines in AI development.
- Implement robust monitoring and auditing processes to maintain platform security and reliability.
Partnerships in Innovation and R&D
- Conduct research and feasibility studies for new AI technologies and methods.
- Drive experimentation with advanced algorithms and tools to improve platform capabilities.
- Build partnerships with academia, startups, and technology vendors to leverage external expertise.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- 10+ years professional experience building, delivering and operating a DE business
- Proven ability to operate leading edge technologies
- Proven ability to deliver complex projects within a large matrix oriented organization
- Knowledge of Health & Safety and the importance of risk management
- Understanding of business processes in industries such as Water, Power, District Energy and IT
- P&L responsibility required

Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
- MBA is preferred.
