ROLE OVERVIEW



  • The role purpose of a Student Support Teacher is to provide specialized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs.
  • The Student Support Teacher aims to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment, adapting teaching strategies to address individual challenges and fostering the overall development of students with individualized requirements.
  • They collaborate with colleagues, parents, and other professionals to ensure the best possible educational experience for students with Learning Differences.
  • The Student Support Teacher will work alongside the Support Service Co-Ordinator to develop a shared approach to meeting all learning needs across the respective Divisions. T
  • They will support with coordinating and monitoring the development of school wide policy and practice related to learning diversity and inclusion.

ROLE COMPETENCIES & ACTIVITIES


The SEND Teacher responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:


School Community


  • Develop and maintain collegial relationships within and beyond the faculty.
  • Advocate for the needs of students with Learning Differences/ additional support requirements within the school and broader educational community.
  • Promote inclusive practices to foster a sense of belonging for all students.
  • Collaborate with relevant teachers to ensure that classroom materials and activities are accessible to students with diverse learning needs.
  • Work with the Support Services Co-Ordinator to develop and implement specialized programs and interventions to support the academic and emotional needs of students presenting with Learning Differences/ support needs in all of its forms.
  • Work with the Support Services Co-Ordinator to provide and identify ongoing training opportunities and guidance to staff members to promote best practices in the area of SEND.
  • Build strong relationships with parents, students and relevant agencies where available to ensure that all stakeholders are working together to support the best interests of each student.
  • Maintain confidential records on all referred students and student/parent contacts in accordance with the NEOM Guidelines and Ministry of Education Requirements.
  • Maintain effective and efficient record-keeping procedures.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings, safeguarding and IEP meetings and any other meetings pertaining to student learning, wellness and achievement.
  • Assist teachers in creating an environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students presenting with Learning Differences.
  • Be effective in seeking relevant information from other professionals and staff in order to inform decision making and to plan to meet the pupils’ needs.
  • Work closely with mainstream teachers to ensure the integration of Individual Learning Difference students into regular classrooms.
  • Present and maintain a highly professional profile at all times, representing the school appropriately in all client-facing situations and respecting the cultural and religious sensitivities of the region.
    • Have the ability to communicate with adults presenting from different societal and cultural backgrounds and encourage their interaction and engagement with the school.
    • Be responsible for all adults and children being considered as valued individuals and equals, embracing diversity and promoting equity for all members of the NEOM Community.
    • Forge authentic processes to engage parents in the learning process and encourage active contributions from parents on a regular basis.

Programming


  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop and implement a comprehensive inclusion and diversity program that fosters a sense of belonging for all students, including those from underrepresented groups.
  • Deliver 1:1 or small group sessions to students on the Learning Difference caseload in line with their individualized goals.
  • Provide in-class support for individual students in line with their individualized plans. This will be across a range of year groups and subject areas.
  • Actively participate in the identification and support of students needing additional support, working to develop, evaluate and improve the whole school graduated response.
  • Identify and implement evidence-based intervention programs. This includes setting specific targets, planning, implementation, record-keeping and review.
  • Provide teaching and learning experiences to meet student needs based on a sound understanding and knowledge of current pedagogical practice in special education.
  • Collaborate, co-plan and/or co-teach within mainstream classes depending on need.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other professionals to ensure that all students receive appropriate accommodations and modifications to meet their individual learning needs.
  • Keep accurate records and registers of the teaching and learning process, including unit plans and programs, student assessment records, registers and student attendance.
  • Attend all appropriate professional training and development in accordance with the school’s needs and aspects identified as outcomes of annual appraisal discussions.

Assessment and Evaluation


  • Conduct assessments to identify individual learning needs and create personalized learning plans.
  • Develop, implement and review IEPs (or equivalent) for students with Learning Differences, supporting to coordinate this process.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, assessments and interventions.
  • Collaborate with other professionals, such as speech therapists or occupational therapists to address specific needs.
  • Lead on collaborating with relevant stakeholders to develop personal progress plans, including supporting to identify appropriate SMART targets and provision in order to enhance progress.
  • Observe children’s individual learning progress and outcomes during sessions, assess individual learning needs and use outcomes to inform planning for future learning.
  • Monitor and assure the quality of learning in the class group, identifying and supporting areas in need of development.
