Position Summary:As the Rigging Subject Matter Expert (SME), will be responsible for overseeing all rigging operations, providing expert technical support, and ensuring the safety and efficiency of all lifting and rigging activities. Offering guidance on complex rigging tasks, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on rigging experience in large-scale construction, heavy lifting, and equipment handling, particularly within industries such as oil & gas, infrastructure, or power generation.
Key Responsibilities:Rigging Operations Leadership:
- Lead and manage all rigging operations on-site, ensuring that all lifting activities are performed safely and efficiently.
- Oversee the planning, execution, and coordination of rigging tasks, including the assembly and disassembly of cranes, hoists, and other lifting equipment.
- Ensure that rigging plans are followed, and that all required safety checks and procedures are adhered to.
- Provide guidance to the rigging team on best practices and proper rigging techniques for safe and efficient operations.
Technical Expertise and Guidance:
- Act as the primary technical expert for rigging issues on-site, offering problem-solving solutions for complex lifting and rigging challenges.
- Review and approve rigging drawings, plans, and lift calculations to ensure they meet safety standards and regulatory requirements.
- Provide training and mentorship to junior rigging personnel and field operators, enhancing their technical knowledge and safety awareness.
- Assist in selecting the appropriate lifting equipment, rigging hardware, and materials based on the load and environment.
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure all rigging activities comply with OSHA, industry, and company safety standards, regulations, and best practices.
- Conduct regular safety audits of rigging operations, identifying potential hazards and recommending corrective actions.
- Champion the site’s safety culture by promoting and enforcing the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safe work practices.
Planning and Scheduling:
- Work closely with project managers and supervisors to ensure rigging operations align with project timelines and objectives.
- Develop and review detailed rigging plans, ensuring that equipment and materials are available and properly staged for each lift.
- Coordinate with other departments (construction, logistics, maintenance) to integrate rigging operations into the overall project schedule.
Inspection and Maintenance:
- Perform regular inspections of rigging equipment, including cranes, hoists, slings, and other tools to ensure they are in safe working condition.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams for the repair and replacement of rigging equipment as necessary.
- Maintain records of inspections, certifications, and maintenance activities for rigging equipment.
Quality Control:
- Ensure the rigging work is executed in accordance with quality standards and project specifications.
- Review lift plans and rigging processes to ensure the efficiency, safety, and integrity of the rigging operations.
Reporting and Documentation:
- Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and progress reports on rigging activities, including safety performance, completed tasks, and ongoing issues.
- Maintain accurate records of rigging operations, inspections, and training.
Qualifications:Education:
- Relevant certifications in rigging (e.g., NCCCO, CIC, OSHA Rigging certification) are highly preferred.
Experience:
- Experience in rigging and lifting operations in industrial, construction, oil & gas, or similar environments.
- Proven experience in leading rigging teams and working on large-scale lifting projects, with a focus on heavy equipment and complex lifting tasks.
- Strong knowledge of rigging techniques, lifting gear, and industry regulations (OSHA, ASME, ANSI, etc.).
- Experience in preparing and reviewing rigging plans, load calculations, and lift assessments.
