Job Purpose
The Legal Counsel, under the guidance of the Senior Legal Counsel, holds a significant role within the organization. His/her primary mission is to provide essential legal support and expertise in various matters, on legal aspect. He/she assists in contract review, legal research, and offering counsel on the legal implications of business decisions. With a meticulous approach and legal acumen, he/she contributes to the organization's legal success, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, and protecting its interests and reputation
Key Accountabilities
- Supports legal review and compliance
- Supports litigation and claims matters
- Collects, cascades and monitors group compliance policies
- Performs safekeeping of documents
- Reviews matters and conducts research into a variety of legal questions referred by the President and/or division vice presidents and department managers. Formulates advice on these matters and discusses/reviews same with management.
- Manages and coordinates with external counsel in all matters, including court proceedings
- Participates in discussions and analyses of various government relations matters, contractual, financial, commercial or corporate matters and recommends courses of action for the Company to follow or provides solutions to these matters.
- Prepares reports and reviews them before forwarding them to the appropriate agencies.
- Works with all departments in resolving contractual issues for project work or other matters.
Minimum Qualifications, Experience and Competencies
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor Degree in Law from a reputable accredited university
Minimum Experience:
5 years of experience in legal related work, preferably within the mining or fertilizer industry
