Position Summary
Aligned with the agency's philosophy and mission, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) offers financial, operational, and strategic assistance to the organization as an integral part of the executive team. The CFO's scope of duties encompasses various responsibilities including strategic planning, financial analysis, accounting and payroll tasks, oversight of grant management, management of information technology and systems, as well as administration and operational functions.
Job Description
Required Education, Experience and Qualifications

Completion of a master's degree at an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience preferred. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred. Five or more years of nonprofit financial experience and management experience with the day-to-day financial operations of a Non-Profit organization with a minimum of a 4-million-dollar operating budget and a minimum of 40 employees. Maintain a valid Ohio driver’s license and ability to meet agency requirements for driving insurability. Must be able to meet agency requirements for criminal background checks (Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations and Federal Bureau of Investigations).
Role and Responsibilities

Strategy and Analysis



As a true business partner to the CEO and agency directors; assess organizational performance against both the annual budget and the company’s long-term financial needs and strategy. Develop tools and systems that provide critical financial and operational information to the Board, CEO and other stakeholders Advise the Board Treasurer and Finance Committee on issues, trends, and changes in the operating model(s) and operational delivery Direct the development and monitoring of budgets, forecasts and analysis of funding sources and expenses Oversee long-term budgetary planning and costs management in alignment with company strategic plan.

Finance/Accounting



Oversee weekly cash management and cash flow planning to ensure availability of funds as needed. Approve weekly payables; execute check signing. Oversee AR management, cash, investment and asset management, preparation and review of month-end, quarter-end, year-end financial statements, payroll activities, and IT contractors Enhance and implement financial and accounting systems, processes, tools, and control system. Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors; Manage preparation and support of all external audits. Oversee all payroll activities Ensure maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures. Ensure timeliness, accuracy, and usefulness of financial and management reporting for federal and state funders, foundations, and company nonprofit’s board of directors. Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions. Serve as one of the trustees and oversee administration and financial reporting of the organization's Savings and Retirement Plan.

Grant Management



Ensure timeliness, accuracy, and usefulness of financial and management reporting for federal and state funders and foundations. Participates with leadership team in the development, identifying new funding opportunities, drafting of prospective programmatic budgets, and determining cost effectiveness of prospective service delivery. Direct and prepare final budgets and budget narratives for outgoing grants/foundation applications. Ensures fiscal compliance with all grant/foundation expenditures Advises CEO on compliance issues and assists with problem-solving of those issues Oversees spending of funding to ensure all grant / foundation funding is completely used in the appropriate timeframe and for the exact purposes stipulated in agreements.

Facilities



Direct facility maintenance in Summit and Medina Provide oversight of capital projects Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies Advise on issues related to risk management

Professional Relations



Prepare for & serve as the liaison to external auditors (financial & compliance), CPA’s (tax returns), & Actuaries (pension plan & postretirement benefit plan valuations) Represent the company to financial partners, including financial institutions, investors, foundation executives, investment bankers, auditors, public officials, etc. Act as the key contact within the organization for: All banking relationships Liability insurance policies 401(k) plan Employee insurance plans Real estate and property affairs Informational technology consultants

Represent Hope & Healing agencies, Battered Women’s Shelter and Rape Crisis Center, by participating in community activities, coalitions and taskforce groups as requested or assigned by supervisor. Complies with agency policies and procedures, federal and state requirements, and educational/certification/registry requirements. Performs other duties as assigned.

In addition to interaction with the survivors, the employee may have interactions with families of these individuals, the assailants and law enforcement.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
Monday-Friday 40 hours/week
Additional Qualifications
Knowledge of:
Not-for-profit accounting in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, OMB Circulars A-133. Laws, regulations, and rules governing non-profit corporations. Organizational development, human resources, and program operations. General office software, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite and QuickBooks (or other similar not-for-profit general ledger software) and use of databases.
