Project Overview:

Jubail is one of Bechtel’s most remarkable achievements—a city built from the sand up, requiring vast resources and logistical planning on an unprecedented scale. It the biggest civil engineering project in modern times—and it's getting bigger. Bechtel has managed the Jubail project, located in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, since it began in the mid-1970s. Bechtel serves as the Management Services Contractor (MSC), or “owner’s representative” for our client, the Royal Commission (RC). We are the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) managers, managing design submissions from local AE firms, and overseeing the actual construction work being performed by local contractors and sub-contractors in Jubail and Ras-Al-Khair Industrial Cities. In June 2021, Bechtel’s contract with the Royal Commission was renewed for another 5 years with work focusing on building new residential communities, iconic buildings/ bridges, major site preparation, commercial buildings, mosques, schools, hospitals, sports facilities, clinics, universities, utility services and infrastructure (electrical sub-stations, lift stations), roads and highways, port & pipeline expansions, and more. 




Job Summary:

In this role, you will plan architectural layouts, prepare detailed design and layout drawings for small structures. You will use 2-D/3-D computer-aided design (CAD) to help prepare architectural designs and construction drawings. You will help prepare forecasts, quantity take-offs, and change orders. Your recommendations of design drawings will help ensure architecture complies with requirements. 




Major Responsibilities:
  • Creative and analytical skills necessary to design a built and a natural environment.
  • Ability to apply and interpret International Code Council requirements, and related standards.
  • Incorporate aesthetic and functional elements to create visually appealing and sustainable architectural design solutions.
  • Demonstrated interdisciplinary coordination skills and review capabilities.
  • Provide input to environmental impact assessments.
  • Collaborate with RC Landscape and Irrigation Department, EPCD, local regulatory committees and legal organizations (e.g. MEWA) to understand requirements for conservation, water use and public safety.
  • EPC, P&C and Design-Build experience with respect to technical review of third party and/or consultant design and construction packages. The review and approval/ rejection of shop drawings and other technical submittals
  • Construction field experience: (Site visits and reports may be required periodically)
  • Familiarity with Industrial and community land-use planning.
  • Architectural design to interface with civil engineering, roadways and highways projects.
  • Capable of reading and understanding design drawings, vendor design packages, specifications and applying industry standards and best practice to construction projects.


Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree of Architecture/Interior Design or related disciplines from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of Five (5) years’ relevant experience with Architectural and interior design practices and procedures.
  • Practical work experience, sufficient to demonstrate competence and breadth in executing and managing architectural and interior designs for various building types.
  • Construction support experience.
  • Technical skills and proficiencies in both standard and specialist computer programs such as: AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, Adobe Photoshop, Sketchup, 3DSMax, Adobe InDesign, PowerPoint, MS Word, illustrator and MS Excel.
  • English language technical fluency is mandatory.
  • Arabic language technical fluency is mandatory.
  • An empathetic individual, that is sensitive to cultural diversity and therefore able to work within an organization that embodies inclusivity, diversity and humanitarian equality.


Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Working knowledge of BIM platform.
  • Experience with sustainability, and its integration into designs as well as the construction of buildings. Experience with LEED certification requirements and documentation.
  • Perform conceptual and detailed architectural designs and interior designs, when necessary.
  • Review architectural submittals at each phase of design development for compliance with required Codes and Standards, RC Guiding Engineering Manual (GEM latest edition), Life safety, ADA accessibility, Sustainability, and LEED certification
  • Review architectural packages produced by third party A/E firms for constructability, design solutions, and technical soundness.
  • Participate and perform interdisciplinary design reviews; deliver presentations; and participate, lead and record notes in meetings, as required.
  • Perform site visits, support construction and contracts departments, in addition to providing interdisciplinary support-collaboration within the engineering department.
  • Execute in-house design and construction assignments. Prepare technical reports.
  • Ensure quality and accuracy of engineering design activities, systems integration, and all work performed by third party A/E firms
  • Generate Pay Item descriptions, Specifications and Scopes of Work, as required for both In-house design tasks and projects.
  • Candidate must demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills. This will include a high level of written, verbal and presentation abilities.
  • A creative, lateral thinker, with the ability to balance and prioritize work when presented with multiple competing tasks.
  • A disciplined, focused, rational, and results oriented individual who drives solutions in a timely manner for self and for other team members.
