Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar invites applications for a full-time, open rank teaching faculty position in Philosophy starting in August 2025.
This is an appointment with primary responsibility for teaching and making scholarly contributions to the educational mission of CMUQ. The candidate will be housed within the Arts and Sciences area at CMUQ and will be expected to teach two courses per semester, including introductory and advanced undergraduate courses in philosophy as part of general education and elective offerings for the four majors at CMUQ: Biological Sciences, Business Administration, Computer Science, and Information Systems. These courses may include:

Introduction to Ethics, Social and Political Philosophy, and AI, Society, and Humanity.



In addition, the candidate will be expected to teach Business, Society, and Ethics, a required course for the business administration degree.
Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar is a branch campus of Carnegie Mellon University that operates in concert with several other American and European branch campuses under the umbrella of the Qatar Foundation’s Education City. The branch campus closely follows the admissions requirements and English language curriculum of the home campus, which awards all degrees. The several thousand students in Education City students are a broad mix of nationalities, with many from the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia. Our campus serves a diverse student body since 2004. Current enrollment is approximately 450 students representing 40 countries. CMUQ’s faculty is a mix of professionals hired specifically to the campus and seconded faculty from the main campus. CMUQ’s primary focus is undergraduate education in Business Administration, Biological Sciences, Computer Science and Information Systems.

A reasonable teaching load (2/2) allows time for quality teaching, research and close involvement with students, faculty and the local business and educational community.

Qualifications



We are especially interested in candidates with a demonstrated record of excellence in undergraduate education, working with diverse multilingual students. A PhD in Philosophy or related field is required. Experience in mentoring student research is desirable.
