Responsible for the day-to-day operations in the Microbiology laboratory.
Performs a variety of microbiological procedures to cultivate, isolate, enumerate and identify microorganisms in clinical specimens.
Conducts routine and specialized microbiological procedures, including bacteriological, mycological, and parasitological.
Perform tests on body fluids such as blood, urine, synovial fluid etc...
Ability to perform the sensitivity and resistance of specific pathogens to a wide range of antimicrobial agents.
Records, analyze and interpret microbiological results.
Performs and documents daily, weekly, and monthly Quality Control.
Operates, cleans, and maintains laboratory equipment used in microbiological procedures.
Communicates laboratory test results to physicians and Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) team.
Makes effort to conduct/participate in scientific research in the field of medical microbiology and/or infectious diseases.
Provides education and training in the field of medical microbiology and infectious diseases to colleagues, healthcare workers and employees working both within and outside the institution.
Necessary knowledge and Experience to be able to do the job:
Minimum 3 to 5 years of related experience of which a minimum of 1 year should be in a similar position/responsibility, preferably in a similar industry.
Trained and experienced in the use, maintenance and operation of laboratory equipment and analysers.
Ability to work shifts and demonstrable willingness to be placed on a 24-hour on-call roster if required.
Education and Certification requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science/technology or any other related field.
