Job Summary:


The Head - General Ledger reports to the Accounting Manager and is responsible for ensuring the integrity and accuracy of all General Ledger transactions. The post holder oversees the processing of accounting transactions, ensures accurate balances for prepaids and accruals, and manages timely reconciliation of General Ledger accounts. The position leads monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring compliance with IAS/IFRS standards and Qatar tax regulations.


In addition to managing the General Ledger, this role oversees correct accounting setups for subledgers and reviews subledger transactions for accuracy and completeness. Post holders’ key responsibilities include maintaining accurate financial data from sub-modules and system interfaces, enforcing strong internal controls, and managing areas such as General Ledger, Inventory, Capital Assets, and Grants Accounting. As a team leader, the Head - General Ledger provides guidance and support to the accounting team, fostering collaboration and operational efficiency.


KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:


  • Ensures the accurate transfer and reconciliation of Oracle Fusion subledger transactions (including payroll, accounts receivable, cost and receipt accounting, and accounts payable) and Cerner interfaces to the General Ledger, ensuring they align with control account balances and trial balances.
  • Verifies that accounting transactions processed through the Oracle Fusion General Ledger comply with Sidra’s policies, procedures, and IAS/IFRS accounting standards.
  • Manages the configuration and updates of accounting rules in Oracle ERP and subledgers, ensuring proper capture of data in the General Ledger.
  • Coordinates General Ledger activities to ensure timely and accurate month-end close processes, including account reconciliations, review and approval of manual journal entries, maintenance of the chart of accounts, expense and revenue recognition, and provisions.
  • Oversees the analysis of prepaid and accrual accounts and ensure appropriate adjustments are prepared and posted as required.
  • Oversees the reconciliation and journal entries of intercompany accounts, ensuring accurate reflection in the General Ledger.
  • Performs periodic reviews of General Ledger schedules and reports to identify gaps or discrepancies, working with relevant teams to resolve these issues promptly.
  • Leads the preparation and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts to the trial balance, collaborating with other finance teams to clear aged or reconciling items within the current period.
  • Oversees monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting processes by reviewing account transactions, analyzing variances, conducting financial analyses, and providing insights to support management decision-making.
  • Leads the year-end financial close process, manage the annual external audit, provide necessary documentation, prepare audit lead sheets, and address audit findings and recommendations.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to support budgeting and forecasting processes, ensuring accuracy and alignment with organizational financial goals.
  • Ensures accurate and timely compliance with tax authorities’ requirements, including withholding tax and income tax reporting, in adherence to local tax laws.
  • In collaboration with the Accounting Manager, reviews policies, processes, systems, and internal controls, making recommendations for improvements and enhancements to the ERP system.
  • Actively participate in the monthly General Ledger close process and assist the Financial Budgeting and Reporting team with inquiries regarding actual transactions processed through the General Ledger.
  • Oversees the reconciliation and reporting of intercompany transactions, ensuring accurate and timely capture of balances in the Sidra Medicine’s books. Coordinate closely within departments’ in Finance, QF and Faseel to ensure proper alignment and reconciliation of intercompany balances between Sidra and QF, ensuring discrepancies are promptly resolved.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:


ESSENTIAL PREFERRED
Education Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Commerce Master’s Degree in Accounting or related field
Experience

7+ years in a Senior General Ledger Accounting Role inclusive of 2+ years of progressive management experience


A similar role in a large and complex organization, preferably an operational healthcare facility
Certification and Licensure Accounting Certification CMA, CIMA, ACCA or similar designations
