Key Accountabilities & Activities:


Research and Education:


  • Participate in Research and Education program as directed by the Director of Medical Education in collaboration with the Director of Research and Chief of Surgery.
  • Participate in the Sports Surgery Training Centre (SSTC) education activities.

Clinical:


  • Attend Outpatient clinics.
  • Consult and examine patients under the supervision of the Chief of Surgery/Orthopaedic Surgeon/General Surgeon.
  • Develop an individualized plan of care from initial observation, management and surgical or non-surgical treatment to follow up care.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the indications, risks, and limitations of commonly performed procedures to determine the most appropriate and effective methods of managing the patients diagnosis from a surgical and non-surgical perspective.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of sports equipment, particularly protective devices intended to allow the athlete to continue competition.
  • Participate in peer-review meetings and discussions.
  • Keep an accurate logbook of all clinical activities.
  • Perform on-call duties as agreed with the Chief of Surgery.
  • Participate in Sports event medical cover in agreement with the Chief of Surgery.

Surgical:


  • Observe surgical procedures and assist surgeons where possible.

Inpatient responsibilities:


  • The fellow will attend the inpatient rounds with the surgeon.
  • Assist patients and their families with providing information on the patient in-hospital treatment and post discharge care.

  • Ensure compliance to all relevant QHSE management policies, procedures and controls his span of control to ensure that the organization provides a safe, world class, secure and environmentally responsible service to customers, the public and its own people.
  • Lead and direct the management of change through continuous improvement of all functional systems, processes, and practices considering international best practice, changes in international standards, and changes in the business and logistical and engineering environment which demand proactive action plans.
  • Contribute to organizational vision and mission.

Thought Leadership: 


  • Contributing to industry publications, presenting at conferences, and joining professional groups as a thought leader and share insights and best practices with colleagues and use thought leadership to help the field progress.

People Management:


  • Provide guidance and direct input to the development plans and performance management of direct reports to meet the organizational mission and objectives.
  • Assume or accept any other responsibilities as assigned by the direct supervisor within the position role and responsibility.
  • Patient Safety-Attend and successfully complete competencies which focus on patient safety initiatives implemented within Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital. Patient Safety Training is an annual requirement, to include all organizational leaders, staff, service, and contracted providers.

Necessary knowledge and Experience to be able to do the job:


  • At least five years of clinical experience post primary medical degree (MD/MBBS/BMChB or equivalent).
  • Registered with the relevant licensing authority in home country as a specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon.

Skills and Abilities:


  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose, treat, and manage simple and complex medical issues.
  • Ability to manage pre- and postoperative patient care.
  • Demonstrable intellectual, conceptual, integrative, qualitative, and analytical abilities. 
  • Commitment to the highest standards of professionalism, ethical values, and the pursuit of clinical excellence. 
  • Willingness to take accountability and responsibility for personal actions and decisions made. 
  • Objectivity in making decisions, and in the giving and receiving of feedback and critical appraisal. 
  • Ability to work well under pressure. 
  • Demonstrable advanced coping and stress management skills. 
  • Ability to work shifts and demonstrable willingness to be placed on a 24-hour callback roster if required

Education and Certification requirements:


  • Recognized medical degree qualification, e.g. MD or MBBS/MBChB.
  • Fulfil all DHP/MoPH licensing requirements and sit for prometric exam in case the DHP requested so. 
  • Medical Licensing: to hold a valid medical license in home /current job country covering the years of experience.
