JOB SUMMARY
The Bioinformatician plays a pivotal role in analyzing and interpreting data from a multi-omic asthma and obesity pediatric cohort. S/he collaborates closely with the pediatric pulmonary specialist to translate their research ideas into meaningful research questions while also contributing his/her own expertise to formulate innovative scientific inquiries.
KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Leads the bioinformatics analysis of a multi-omic asthma and obesity pediatric cohort, integrating and interpreting genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics data.
- Collaborates closely with the team members to understand research objectives and translate clinical ideas into well-defined research questions.
- Independently proposes novel research questions based on an understanding of bioinformatics and clinical data.
- Develops and implements robust bioinformatics pipelines and algorithms to process and analyze complex biological datasets.
- Stays up-to-date with the latest advancements in bioinformatics tools, methods, and technologies to optimize data analysis strategies.
- Provides mentorship and technical guidance to junior team members to enhance their professional growth and contributions to the project.
- Generates clear and concise reports and contributes to publications in scientific journals to disseminate research findings.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS – SELECTION CRITERIA
Education Ph.D. degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field
Experience
5+ years of experience in bioinformatics, with a strong track record of successful research projects and publications:
- Extensive experience in analyzing diverse biological datasets, such as genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics data
- Proven leadership experience in bioinformatics projects and mentorship of junior team members
Job Specific Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in programming languages used in bioinformatics, such as Python, R, or Perl
- Expertise in bioinformatics tools and databases, including but not limited to BLAST, NCBI, Ensembl, and UCSC Genome Browser
- Solid understanding of clinical concepts and terminology, particularly in the field of pediatric pulmonary research
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically about complex biological questions
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
- Fluency in written and spoken English
