The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at The Aga Khan University is a dynamic academic center which serves the diagnostic needs of the country through its clinical laboratory services that spreads across Pakistan. AKUH’s Clinical Laboratory is College of American Pathologists (CAP) accredited and caters to the need of the entire country through its tertiary lab at the main campus and 300+ specimen collection units and 13 stat labs across Pakistan. The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine consists of five major sections namely Chemical Pathology, Haematology and Transfusion Medicine, Histopathology, Microbiology, and Molecular Pathology. Each section is academically driven and is highly engaged in research and undergraduate, postgraduate teaching and training.

Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Specialist (Translational Research Cell) in the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine.

Reporting to the Vice Chair Research, you will ensure smooth and efficient day to day operations of research and data collection activities. You will also ensure adherence to the updated national guidelines for sample collection, overseeing staff training in advanced techniques and maintaining quality control. Additionally, you will be responsible:

• develop and supervise protocols for temperature-controlled sample transport with GPS tracking and real time monitoring
• manage advanced inventory systems for automated reordering and regular audits and supervise staff on proper PPE usage and safety protocols
• oversee management, compilation, and analysis of research data, maintaining data integrity and quality
• coordinate and liaise with faculty for comprehensive analysis of research data, ensuring collaborative and insightful outcomes
• lead capacity building workshops for under supervision
• draft papers, presentations, reports, manuscripts, and abstracts for publication
• assist in conducting, managing, and planning research projects by determining theoretical aspects of problems and selecting appropriate methods of approach, providing expert guidance and support.

You should have:

-    a Masters in Science degree from a recognized institution-    at least 4 – 5 years of bench research experience within the field of translational research-    good research skills-    training and knowledge of Biosafety for working with infectious pathogens-    strong communication and interpersonal skills.
