Job Role / Responsibilities:
The Specialist, Data Governance will work as an expert in the Global Data & Analytics Office (GDAO) to develop and implement data governance policies and frameworks, improving the organization’s data management maturity. This role involves ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, enhancing data quality, and fostering collaboration across teams to define and maintain data policies, standards, and procedures.
Specifically, you will be responsible for:
- developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive data governance framework.
- identifying gaps in current practices and establishing metrics and KPIs to monitor effectiveness.
- evaluating and piloting solutions for a data foundation platform, including marketing to internal stakeholders.
- finalizing assessments of the organization’s data management maturity and setting improvement benchmarks.
- collaborating with data owners and stewards to ensure high-quality and consistent data across systems.
- conducting data quality audits, identifying gaps, and driving remediation efforts.
- building and maintaining an inventory of data assets across all AKU geographies and departments.
- promoting awareness and facilitating training on data policy and procedures in East Africa and Kabul.
- developing uniform definitions for data domains and column names across entities to ensure consistency.
- proposing and implementing streamlined processes for data access and analysis for research users.
- ensuring the effective management, security, and accessibility of data assets to enable better data-driven decisions.
Eligibility Criteria / Requirements:
- holding an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or an equivalent field (a graduate degree and/or certifications related to data governance and management are preferred).
- possessing 4+ years of experience in data governance or management, preferably in a multinational organization.
- demonstrating a thorough understanding of data management frameworks, regulatory compliance (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA), and best practices.
- exhibiting strong knowledge of enterprise tools and systems for data governance and data science.
- having working knowledge of data science and machine learning concepts and tools.
- showcasing excellent interpersonal and communication skills, along with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders and meet deadlines.
