The Aga Khan University was found in 1983 as Pakistan’s first private university, Aga Khan University is a not-for-profit institution and an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network. Starting in 2000, the University expanded to Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, United Kingdom and Afghanistan. AKU began life as a health-sciences university. The multidisciplinary Department of Biological and Biomedical Sciences based in the Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan, strives to deliver high-quality undergraduate and graduate education cutting across and integrating the disciplines of Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology and Pharmacology. The department is also committed to conducting impactful biomedical research on both communicable and non-communicable disorders, designed to improve the health and wellbeing of communities at large.
