Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Senior Instructor at the School of Nursing and Midwifery.
Responsibilities:
The position will be reporting to the Assistant Dean, Undergraduate Programme, School of Nursing and Midwifery. Moreover, you will be responsible for:
- teaching assigned theoretical & clinical courses at BScN program independently which includes delivering lectures, student evaluations for assignments & examinations effectively utilizing principles of teaching & learning, as per needs of courses and students
- designing a comprehensive course grid that outlines the curriculum structure, teaching-learning, and assessment strategy along with class schedule
- mentoring faculty at Instructor and Intern level in developing and teaching courses
- implementing evaluation tools for classroom and clinical instructions in conformity with School of nursing and Aga Khan University’s policies and established performance norms for evaluation of students / ensuring complete fairness and objectivity for ensuring that this is based on fair and equitable parameters, and provide required feedback to students for the same
- providing constructive feedback (summative and formative) to learners based on course objectives.
- encouraging students for self-directed learning and the inquiry process and facilitate in creating culturally relevant knowledge and practice
- identifying learning problems (self, learners, course) and recommends strategies for change and when needed seeks appropriate consultations from senior faculty/ supervisor
- promoting self-evaluation in the learners
- participating actively in student advisement activities
- effectively supervising students/learners during their clinical practice, and ensue that a good relationship is maintained / developed with health care institutions where students are carrying out their clinical practice
- being available for students requiring guidance for their assignments
- ensuring confidentiality of all assessment tools and student advisement notes
- engaging in research with senior colleagues as a Co-PI
- Oral / Poster presentation at institutional / national conference
- taking on assigned responsibilities as coordinator for a course, interest group, clinical practice, subject to specialty or as per programme requirement
- serving in School of Nursing / University /Hospital committee (At least two committees and chair one)
- demonstrating responsibility and accountability in the performance of faculty role e.g., faculty meetings, nursing rounds, nursing seminars, recruitment of faculty and learners
- being an active member of an interest group relevant to area of discipline or National /International Nursing organization / Federation
- ensuring active participation and contribution for committees for which assigned as member & also provide ongoing feedback to supervisor for the same
- mentoring other faculty members.

Requirements:
You should have:
- a masters degree (MScN/MSc in MPH, Epi Bio, HPM) with Basic Nursing qualification as mandatory (BScN/Post-RN, Diploma in Nursing) with a minimum 3 years of clinical/ teaching experience
- published at least two research papers; one as the first author in a Peer-reviewed, Indexed Journal (at least one paper published in the last two years)
- ability to demonstrate clinical competence as a professional nurse and an effective role model
- sound conceptual knowledge of nursing/field of specialization and ability to integrate theory into practice
- good teaching skills & knowledge of new teaching methodologies & practices
- knowledge of current research methodologies, and an ability to initiate research
- ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with course participants
- good academic writing & presentation skills
- fluency in English & Urdu and an ability to communicate in other regional languages would be an advantage
- proficiency in the use of computers and related computer software packages
- good conceptual and analytical skills
- good knowledge of educational leadership and management
- good planning & organizing skills
- good interpersonal skills & ability to work with teams
