Introduction

The Aga Khan University Medical College (MC) was established in 1983, as a part of the Aga Khan University’s Faculty of Health Sciences in Karachi, Pakistan. It works closely with the School of Nursing and Midwifery and the University Hospital to produce excellence in educational programs and medical practice.

The Centre for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research (CRM) is a state-of-the-art facility undertaking cutting edge research on non-communicable diseases prevalent in the developing world, stem cell and regenerative medicine; nurturing the next generation of researchers and clinicians; and creating a multidisciplinary collaborative environment that encourages innovation.

AKU-CRM invites applications from outstanding and ambitious candidates with experience in one or more of these areas including cell and tissue culture, 3D culture systems, drug treatments, organoids and iPSC culture and maintenance, protein and RNA expression analysis platforms. 

Applicants, who are currently involved in the broad areas listed below, will also be considered: 

• Scaffolds, organoids and 3D culture systems
• Endogenous regenerative potential of tissues and organs
• Microfluidics/Organ-on-a-chip
• Reprogramming and differentiation of iPSCs

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Faculty AKU-CRM, the individual will perform a varied set of responsibilities that include:

• conducting wet lab research at AKU-CRM labs
• conducting daily, weekly and monthly inventory of consumables/reagents required for the team
• attending weekly meetings, journal clubs, and research in progress and presenting in these meetings as directed by the assigned faculty
• any other assignment as directed by the faculty.

Requirements

The applicant must have

• a minimum of Masters' degree in the fields of cell biological sciences or related field of research
• minimal three years’ experience in a research laboratory, post qualification
• candidates with experience in the following areas are encouraged to apply

  1. Advanced tissue culture systems, organoid technology, iPSCs

  
  

               2. Organ-on-a-chip/Microfluidics

  
  

               3. Design, development, and validation of systems for biological studies

  
  

               4. Functional imaging

  
  

  5. Protein and RNA assays

  
  
• a strong organizational skill with ability to handle multiple tasks assigned by the faculty
• competent in computer usage with command over Microsoft office, statistical and imaging software
• sound communication and presentation skills i.e. fluent in English speaking and writing
• strong interpersonal skills.
