There are many clinically relevant software systems used currently in the hospital setting. AKU is going through a major deployment of an integrated electronic health system across its various campuses. Clinical implementation of the electronic health record (EHR) will be via the Office of the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO), and the Physician Informaticist (PI) will ensure its clinical efficacy. The goal of this position is to ensure that the design and building of EHR-related clinical systems and technologies are effective for clinical practitioners, patients, and researchers. The Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Physician Informaticist (Pediatrics), in the office of CMIO.
Responsibilities:
The Physician Informaticist will play a pivotal role in our EHR Programme team, focusing on maximizing the clinical effectiveness and operational efficiency of our Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.Physician Informaticist will be responsible for supporting and enhancing EHR functionality, improving clinical workflows, and ensuring the effective integration of EHR systems into everyday clinical practice in the department of Pediatrics. Reporting to the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) and Lead EHR Physician, you will be responsible for
·Supporting physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff by providing continuous support, troubleshooting, and identifying opportunities for clinical information system improvements.
·Promoting future and present system functionality by identifying and testing the clinical information systems.
·Identifying clinical practice workflow and process issues, concerns, and works with leadership and to define system and process requirements that will optimize system performance and technology utilization by clinical practitioners
·Serve as a skilled clinical resource in support of non-clinical team members.
·Serve as the domain expert for any activity that relates to clinical workflows.
·Train end-users to use the EHR.
·Provide elbow level Go-Live support to clinicians.
·Assist in methodology and content development related to various clinical and related non-clinical domains.
·Participate in internal and client-driven focus groups to gather requirements and enhancement requests for the EHR.
·Assist medical and clinical researchers in the design of retrospective studies, including data generation, analysis, interpretation of data derivatives and publication of scientific articles.
·Act as a mentor to new PI’s, residents, or students.
·Assist with educational initiatives via use of the EHR.
·Ability to travel occasionally as warranted by EHR Programme work and location; frequency will vary depending on programme requirements.
Qualifications
Requirements:The incumbent must have:
·Graduate of Medical College (MBBS or MBChB or MD)
·1- 2 years of experience in the field of Pediatrics, AKU experience is preferred but not required.
·Experience with inpatient, outpatient, peri-operative
·Experience with direct patient care responsibilities.
·Knowledge of hospital/physician practice procedures, regulations, and guidelines.
·Understanding of clinical care pathways, order management, and Physician documentation
·Experience working effectively with Physicians, Nurses, Residents, and Students.
·Clinically trained for inpatient and outpatient venues of care.
·clinical rotations during educational training, especially in Pediatrics, experience at AKU will be preferred
·participated in clinical research studies, preferred but not required.
·Prior experience with the use of an electronic health record (EHR), preferred but not required.
·Excellent communication skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving
·Ability to handle confidential information and work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
