Job Purpose
  • To lead and manage the mechanical engineering, maintenance, modification, and project activities within and related to the Paints & Coatings business to ensure asset integrity, reliability, availability, quality, and efficiency to support sustainable operability in line with business strategy and objectives.


Key Accountabilities
  • Provide leadership and day-to-day guidance to the mechanical staff at Paints and coordinate effectively with internal and external interfaces to ensure plant and unit availability, reliability, quality, and efficiency.
  • To provide direction for mechanical maintenance, fabrication, machining, welding, and NDT jobs to ensure execution as per required standards, safely, and within stipulated budgets and time frames.
  • Practically drive a culture of predictive and preventive maintenance and reduce breakdown and unplanned maintenance through effective planning, condition monitoring, job scheduling, and forecasting.
  • As the Responsible Engineer (RE) for AIG-4, AIG-5, AIG-7, AIG-8, and AIG-9, ensure full ownership and 100% compliance of the AIGs through proactive reviews, initiatives, audits, and action plans.
  • Initiate and manage the modifications related to mechanical systems, machinery, piping, structures, vessels, tanks, heat exchangers, etc. to ensure optimum output while maintaining the required controls on modifications
  • Implement the company’s HSE policies, standards, and procedures to ensure sustainability, and legislative and corporate policy compliance. Provide day-to-day leadership in HSE to the team through PTW systems, auditing, toolbox talks, and HSE sessions.
  • Effectively and proactively assist the Engineering Manager with budget preparation, EP generation, monitoring, and control to minimize revenue expenditure (esp. spares, contractor bills, and staff overtime) and effectively utilize capital expenditure for highest paybacks on investment
  • Facilitate procurement through clarification of specifications and MSLs correction. Manage the mechanical inventory in line with industry best practices and undertake initiatives to ensure the availability of insurance and critical spares while reducing overall inventory value to comparable international benchmarks. 
  • Provide day-to-day coaching, guidance and mentoring to direct reports and the team to continuously enhance the knowledge and skills available within the mechanical team.
  • Coordinate effectively with the Projects team and provide proactive support (and leadership when required) for mechanical issues so as to ensure timely, within budget, and safe completion of all planned projects.


Experience
  • 4 to 7 years experience as a maintenance/engineering team.
  • Minimum 2 years experience as a team leader in a process industry / large manufacturing facility (preferably on plants with hazardous substance utilization/handling)
  • Must be experienced in personnel management with a minimum of 1 year’s supervisory experience. 
  • Knowledge and application skills on relevant international codes and standards, engineering & maintenance best practices.
  • Awareness and practical exposure to management of engineering changes and projects. Must have managed some projects from conceptual design to commissioning and handover.
  • Demonstrable skills in planning, scheduling, budgeting, proposals development, tender, and contracts development and administration.
  • Must have a proven track record of working on safety, health, and environment (SHE) management systems.
