Introduction:

The Aga Khan University was found in 1983 as Pakistan’s first private university, Aga Khan University is a not-for-profit institution and an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network. Starting in 2000, the University expanded to Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, United Kingdom and Afghanistan. AKU began life as a health-sciences university.

The Aga Khan University Examination Board (AKU-EB) is the first private-sector university-led trans-provincial Board (awarding body) in Pakistan established through the Ordinance of the Government of Pakistan. The Board offers high-quality examinations for Secondary School (grades 9th and 10th - SSC) and Higher Secondary School (grades 11th and 12th - HSSC/ FSC) qualifications for public and private schools across Pakistan. The Board also offers a Middle School Programme (MSP) for grades 6th–8th students and its registered schools engage a globally accepted approach, Project-Based Learning (PBL) to implement the MSP. The PBL is considered as a foundation of the AKU-EB MSP, helping schools foster sense of purpose and leadership in young learners.

At the heart of AKU-EB’s mission is to shift teaching and learning away from rote learning and move towards higher order thinking, preparing students for higher education and lifelong learning. The Board is evaluated internationally for implementing global best practices, making AKU-EB qualifications credible and recognized globally.

Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Lead Specialist in the Examination Board.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Manager (Education Development), you will be responsible for:

• developing and reviewing high quality questions on a regular/weekly basis or as per recommendation
• developing error-free exam papers which are balanced and grade-appropriate with regards to content coverage, skill coverage, and difficulty level
• reviewing mentees’ exam papers and give critical feedback for improvement
• syllabi development and review
• developing other relevant learning resources based on the syllabi/ evidence-based research/ assessment outcome/reports from teacher trainers
• actively participating in creating projects for middle school programme 
• actively participating in designing and conduct of workshops for teachers and students
• capturing data resulting from workshops for analysis and research
• publishing research work as lead author in at least 1 paper per year
• analyse and effectively use assessment data to improve the quality of examination
• training and supervising staff (internal and external) in e-marking, item analysis meeting and use of assessment data.

Requirements:

You should have:

• at least a Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant discipline, with strong academic credentials
• a minimum of five years of teaching experience at the SSC/HSSC level
• a passion for preparing students for tertiary education and an understanding of the educational continuum
• knowledge of curriculum development and the ability to create exams that assess critical thinking and reasoning skills
• proven ability and experience in mentoring and guiding team members
• experience in fulfilling managerial responsibilities related to core organizational activities
• fluency in English, with excellent communication skills
• the ability to represent the Examination Board to schools, students, and parents
• a steadfast commitment to quality and integrity in all aspects of the Examination Board’s work
• strong collaboration skills and the ability to work as part of a curriculum and exam preparation team.
