The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Aga Khan University is a unique/distinguish establishment which serves the clinical laboratory of Aga Khan University Hospital with academic interest. This department is heavily engaged in undergraduate, postgraduate and technologist training programs. It provides professional training for higher degree in four major areas of Pathology (Chemical Pathology, Hematology, Histopathology, and Microbiology). Currently, there are approximately 61 Faculty, including 3 part time, 2 visiting faculty members, and 41 Residents.
This is a grant-funded contractual position.
Key Responsibilities:
You will be responsible to:
- explain procedures and ensure patients understand the testing process and follow-up days of the study
- obtain informed consent from patients before sample collection
- maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines
- perform phlebotomy (blood collection) following proper aseptic techniques
- collect and handle various biological samples following best clinical practices
- properly tag and label samples to avoid misidentification and store them as per standard guidelines
- conduct point-of-care rapid tests for patient enrolment and ensure accurate and timely results while adhering to quality control protocols
- maintain and calibrate testing equipment as required
- receive and log incoming samples into the Case Report Forms (CRFs)
- ensure proper storage and handling of samples according to safety regulations
- prepare samples for dispatch to the main campus in Karachi
- ensure inventory building and updating at the field site
- track stock levels of laboratory supplies, reagents, and equipment
- coordinate procurement and replenishment with the team to avoid shortages
- follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and regulatory guidelines
- maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment
- communicate effectively with healthcare professionals regarding test results
- assist in inventory management, ensuring adequate supplies for daily operations
- train and support junior staff or interns when required.
Requirements:
You should have:
- graduation in a relevant field, preferably with a general nursing and CMW diploma
- at least two years of related work experience, including managing or coordinating research projects
- excellent interpersonal skills, particularly communication skills
- proficiency in the use of computer applications, particularly MS Word and Excel
- ability to manage time and prioritise tasks effectively
- ability to work effectively in teams and resilience to cope with work pressure
- excellent communication and report-writing skills
- willingness to work in a community setting and travel as per work requirements.
