Drug Product Design and Development is responsible for designing and developing formulations that enable delivery of AbbVie’s candidate molecules in a dosage form which is intended for product commercialization. We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Scientist in the group based in Cambridge, MA.

AbbVie is seeking a highly motivated, collaborative scientist with a proven track record in the design, characterization and understanding of formulations for small molecules across multiple routes of administration

Key responsibilities include: 

• Lead the formulation design for small molecule development candidates within the AbbVie pipeline.
• Interface to drug product development teams to ensure that biopharmaceutical and physicochemical considerations are incorporated into formulation design.
• Advance scientific expertise within function. Proactively demonstrate leadership by advising and sharing knowledge and expert opinions with subordinates, peers, and senior management.
• Ensure development of technologies and scientific innovation that improve the capability to formulation small molecules within the AbbVie pipeline
• Collaborate with other functions within AbbVie to align a broad range of strategies that directly support drug discovery and development programs
• Ensure compliance with AbbVie safety, quality and regulatory policies and government regulations.

Basic:

• BA/BS 10+ yr experience MS 8+ yr experience) or PhD (0+ yr experience) in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Medicinal Chemistry, Biopharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmaceutics, or Physical Pharmacy

Preferred:

• Strong knowledge of parenteral formulation strategies for small molecules.
• Advanced understanding of injectable suspensions and/or particle-based technologies for long-acting applications.
• Fundamental understanding of physicochemical properties related to particle-based formulation design.
• Demonstrated ability to trouble-shoot formulation and fabrication processes, including resolution of potential scale-up issues.
• Displays technical awareness in various aspects of drug development, adherence to rigorous scientific method, and commitment to the scientific process.
• Strong drive for learning new techniques and technologies.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team setting.
