Job Description

Purpose


AbbVie Bioresearch Center in Worcester, MA is seeking a Senior Facilities Engineer to join the GMP Facilities Engineering group. The selected candidate will be responsible for the management and execution of facilities related projects and maintenance activities in an ISO 5-8 biopharmaceutical manufacturing space and mixed-use facility.


Responsibilities


  • Management of facility activities through the entire life-cycle including scope development, scheduling, budgeting and coordinating activities interdepartmentally and with contractors. 
  • Assist in development and implementation of a comprehensive facility preventative maintenance program used to inspect, maintain, and repair the facility with input from a cross-functional team.
  • Assist in development of standard operating procedures to control and manage essential cGMP services.
  • Perform facility inspections and develop remediation plans based on findings. Manage the plan through use of work orders and internal and external vendors.
  • Manage facility work order process with walkdowns before/after to ensure alignment with cGMP, engineering standards, and best practices.
  • Oversee all on-site contractors for assigned projects/tasks. This includes (but is not limited to) scheduling of contractors around production operations, contractor safety permits, oversight of contractor safety, and continuous review / approval of contractor equipment installation during construction. 
  • Manage the procurement process and generate purchase requisitions for all project needs according to relevant AbbVie policies and procedures.
  • Responsibilities of this engineering grade level inherently include and expand upon the responsibilities established for lower engineering grade levels.
  • Independently executes the maintenance of the facility by applying standard engineering theories, concepts, and techniques within the discipline.
  • Creates/modified designs for intermediate problems. Designs/modifies more complex components/processes; writes detailed design specifications. Predicts patterns/trends. Grasps complexities and sees relationships among data; determines consequences and alternatives; makes recommendations.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering is required (preferably Mechanical, Chemical, or Civil) with a desired 5+ years of significant engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of cGMP is required.
  • Possess excellent attention to detail and ability to hold others accountable for quality.
  • A background in facilities, maintenance, or construction management of biopharmaceutical facilities is preferred. Qualifications/training in maintenance, facility management, or construction management is a plus. 
  • Has a good general background of interior and exterior commercial construction activities with some degree of understanding of all trades to support construction efforts.
  • General knowledge of the building, architectural, plumbing, mechanical, electrical and fire protection codes.
  • Strong interpersonal and oral/written communication skills with ability to work collaboratively with others in a fast-paced, goal-driven environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively, possesses excellent planning and organizational skills, while maintaining flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Possesses interpersonal skills to negotiate and reconcile differences.
  • Candidates must be able to lift 25 lbs. and negotiate pipe racks / ladders.

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.​

  • This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentive programs. ​
