Our client, a tech-forward financial services provider specializing in bookkeeping, accounting, and fractional CFO services for primarily Saas startups (as well as a few small businesses), is seeking a highly experienced Controller. This senior-level, client-facing role focuses on overseeing a team of bookkeepers, ensuring the quality and timeliness of deliverables, and managing client relationships. Location: Fully-Remote (Work from Home), 9 AM - 5 PM EST
Key Responsibilities:
Bookkeeping Management: Oversee work performed by bookkeepers, continuously refine processes using automation, manage month-end close with tools like Keeper, and ensure accurate reporting of accruals/prepaids using Accruer, and deferred revenue via Causal.
Financial Reconciliation: Design and execute month-end adjusting entries, handle stock-based compensation and cap table reconciliations using Carta or Pulley data.
Finance (AP/AR): Manage accounts payable process using Ramp Bill Pay or Bill.com, expense management and reimbursements through Ramp, manage AR invoices through Stripe, and ensure timely payments and invoicing.
Payroll Oversight: Manage payroll execution using platforms like Gusto, Justworks, or Rippling, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
Strategic Financial Reporting: Prepare and manage monthly updates in Causal, delivering clear and professional financial reports to clients. Ability to take a step back during the review process and notice if anything looks off and resolve.
Exceptional Client Relationships: Consistently positive feedback from clients for taking responsibility, proactive communication, responsiveness, and dedication.
Efficient Operations: Processes and deliverables are completed on time and accurately, leveraging automation and streamlined workflows for optimal efficiency.
Accurate Financials: Reliable, clear, professional financial reports and deliverables that meet or exceed client expectations.
4-5 years of experience as a Controller or in a similar role, with a proven track record of maintaining clean, professional books and reports delivered on time.
Extensive knowledge of QuickBooks and hands-on experience managing bookkeepers.
Expert in Excel and Google Sheets for data analysis and reporting. Comfortable using Vlookup, Xlookup, Sumif, Countif formulas and building Pivot Tables for data analysis.
Experience with and aptitude for picking up and using automation tools.
Previous experience in client-facing roles is highly advantageous.
Familiarity with the US market and/or prior experience living in the US is highly advantageous.
Skills:
Fluent English verbal and written communication skills, with experience working asynchronously using tools like Loom. Available to respond and meet live during EST business hours.
Strong organizational, attention to detail, and time-management skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities efficiently.
