Job Purpose: To contribute to the organization’s strategic objectives by supporting the preparation of insightful data analyses and reports that guide decision-making in areas such as resource utilization, and program performance to enhance WFP’s programmatic impact and digital capability across sectors. The Programme Associate (Data Analysis/GIS) will work closely with the M&E Team and other internal counterparts to align data analysis and GIS outputs with organizational objectives, in conducting data analytics, supporting the development of visualizations, and delivering GIS services to provide actionable recommendations.  The role will ensure data quality and compliance with corporate standards and promoting data literacy within the team and with external partners.

Key Responsibilities (not all-inclusive, nor exhaustive):

Within delegated authority and under the direct supervision of the Performance Reporting and GIS Officer, the Programme Associate (Data Analysis/GIS) will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Support the preparation of a wide range of data analyses that highlight trends/issues on different operational topics ensuring adhesion to corporate standards
  • Support the development of dashboards or other forms of visualizations including GIS services to derive findings and recommendations.  
  • Support the development and maintenance of databases of geospatial and socio-economic data and standardize geospatial information ensuring data preparedness.
  • Implement database management ensuring data is continuously updated and accessible.
  • Implement data quality assurance to routinely assess data accuracy, completeness, and consistency, reducing errors and enhancing the reliability of reports.
  • Contribute to the development of tools that support effective information management, performance reporting and inter-agency information management in line with WFP and UN policies and practices.
  • Promote a knowledge-sharing and learning culture, engaging with internal counterparts for the resolution of a range of operational queries and problems using data analytics, and support Programme and other colleagues respectively as they liaise with external partners.
  • Contribute to strengthening data analysis capability and support strengthening digital literacy of WFP staff and partners through training and information sharing, enabling an overall national system strengthening approach.
  • Follow standard emergency preparedness practices to ensure WFP is able to quickly respond and deploy needed resources to affected areas at the onset of the crisis
  • Perform other related duties, as required.
