Position Overview:
We’re seeking a skilled live-in specialist to provide personalized support for an autistic child, who benefits from extra assistance in daily routines, learning, and social interactions. This role is ideal for a professional who brings both expertise and a genuine passion for fostering a child’s growth, independence, and ability to build connections. The specialist will play a key role in guiding the child’s development, creating a nurturing environment, and building vital life skills through daily support and engaging activities.
Key Roles & Accountabilities:
- Assist the child with daily tasks such as dressing, meals, and creating a calm and consistent environment.
- Establish a structured routine that promotes a sense of security and stability.
- Encourage gradual steps toward independence, reinforcing self-care skills through patience and positive reinforcement.
- Guide the child in recognizing and expressing emotions constructively, fostering emotional intelligence.
- Engage in activities designed to enhance empathy, self-awareness, and social confidence.
- Help the child build effective communication skills, including active listening and self-expression, to strengthen relationships and social interactions.
- Develop and implement tailored, fun learning activities that support the child’s education and personal interests.
- Collaborate with educational professionals, including teachers and tutors, to maintain a cohesive approach to the child’s learning journey.
- Reinforce therapeutic activities as needed, working closely with any specialists involved in the child’s development.
- Implement behavior management strategies that use positive reinforcement to encourage healthy emotional and social behaviors.
- Document progress and behavioral patterns, providing the family with regular insights and feedback.
- Partner with the parents to develop strategies that support the child’s emotional, social, and educational growth at home.
- Guide and mentor the parents on techniques for promoting positive behavior, social skills, and independence in everyday routines.
- Provide regular feedback on the child’s progress, sharing effective practices and updates to help parents play an active role in supporting development.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Psychology, Child Development, or related field.
- Additional certifications are preferred (ABA, AC).
- 3+ years of experience with children with autism.
- Strong understanding of behavior management, child development, and adaptive learning techniques
- Excellent communication skills.
