BACKGROUND:
In the framework of the project “EMPOWER-Jordan: Enabling and Mobilizing Civil Society Organizations in Jordan through Reinforced Institutional, Advocacy, and Technical Capacities to Enhance Coordination for Sustainable Development”, ACTED aims to strengthen the technical and institutional capacities of civil society organizations to scale up collective action and advocacy for inclusive sustainable development.
Under the supervision of the Project officer, the Project assistant will contribute to the development and ensure the implementation of the project funded by the EU, “Civil society organizations in Jordan are active agents of human rights protection and sustainable development through developed capacities and institutionalized coordination and participation mechanisms”. The Project Assistant will be responsible for strengthening the technical and institutional capacities of civil society organizations to scale up collective action and advocacy for inclusive sustainable development.
The Project Assistant will be supporting the need assessments and capacity-building activities implemented in collaboration with CSOs in the northern and central Jordan governorates.
The Project assistant is also responsible for collecting data on potential CSOs' knowledge and skills as well as for raising the capacity of target CSOs through developing their capabilities and institutionalized coordination and participation mechanisms.
LOCATION: Jordan, north, south and central Governorates.
JOB PURPOSE
The project Assistant will participate in overseeing the development and implementation of an assessment of the capacity of CSOs operating in the host communities of North and Central Jordan as well as in implementing their organizational development and capacity-building.
The Project Assistant will be primarily responsible for training, preparing and monitoring the implementation of the institutional capacity of national CSOs, co-applicants, and national unions. as well as Developing the practical and networking capacity of CSOs to monitor and support equitable progress towards Jordan’s sustainable development agenda.
OBJECTIVES:
· Coordination and implementation of capacity building of CBOs/CSOs
· Support the project manager and technical experts in delivering high-quality technical assistance and training support.
· Support delivery of the project activities including monitoring, and reporting on the project interventions.
· Provide implementation support to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of technical assistance, by leading planning and organization of agreed activities.
· Support facilitation and delivery of workshops, events, capacity-building training, and local policy advocacy initiatives with stakeholders as necessary.
· Support the project manager on outreach and identification of target CSOs at the grassroots), mid, and national levels in line with ACTED’s Global 3Zero Strategy.
· Follow up and report on the project implementation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collecting data on potential CSOs knowledge and skills
- Organize key events such as consultation meetings, training, committee meetings, etc.
- Participate in design of monitoring tools and analysis of monitoring results to ensure achieving successful results of technical assistance.

- Provide implementation support to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of technical assistance, by leading the planning and organization of agreed activities.
- Collaborating and providing information for monthly, quarterly, and end-of-the-project reporting to the donor.
- Ensure that the Project’s communications materials (e.g. banners, brochures) are visible and present at all events, training, ceremonies, etc.
- Keep an up-to-date record of major events in the governorate and report on them when necessary.
- Support office maintenance and logistics when necessary.
- Participate and engage in any project’s training and meetings as requested by the supervisor.
- Ensure cross-program integration, learning, sharing and adoption of best practices from other ACTED activities and teams.
- Any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School or bachelor’s degree in a related or relevant field.
- Proven 2-3 years’ experience in capacity building/livelihood projects implementation.
- Basic knowledge of climate-smart agriculture is desirable.
- Desirable experience in working in host community settings, cooperatives, Community Based Organization (CBO) engagement, outreach, and capacity building.
- Have proven experience in using ACTED tools for CBOs assessment (my cope, GOCA).
- Have proven experience in CBOs grant management.
- Familiar with MS Excel, MS Word, and MS Outlook
- Fluent Arabic (compulsory)
- Knowledge and experience of Jordanian civil society at large and specifically national wide.
- Familiarity with the culture of the affected population; understanding of how to gain respect from a wide range of people; strong ability to communicate effectively.
- Positive attitude toward project’s beneficiaries (host community and Syrian refugees)
- Gender sensitivity.
- Strong organizational skills, including assessing priorities, strategic planning, meeting deadlines, and attention to detail and quality.
- Ability to work flexibly and on tight deadlines, handle multitasking, and prioritize more important tasks.
Good leadership, negotiating, and communication skills in a fast-paced, multicultural, and challenging environment.
