Responsibilities:
• Program and configure Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Distributed Control System (DCS) interfaces.
• Plan and organize maintenance activities for SCADA and PLC systems, including updates and controls, to ensure optimal performance.
• Integrate automation systems with existing equipment and software to ensure seamless operations and system communication.
• Conduct testing and verification of automated systems to ensure compliance with design specifications, performance standards, and safety requirements.
• Develop and implement safety protocols and procedures for the systems.
• Analyze and enhance automation processes to improve efficiency, reduce downtime, and optimize overall system performance.
• Periodically monitor, analyze, and inspect system performance and data readings to identify improvement areas, boost efficiency, and propose appropriate solutions.
• Ensure all automation systems and processes comply with industrial regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
• Perform root cause analysis of system failures and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Prepare and update comprehensive documentation, including system designs, programming code, user manuals, and maintenance logs.
• Train and provide technical support and guidance to engineers, operators, technicians, and other maintenance teams on system usage.
• Collaborate with external service providers and contractors for specialized repairs or maintenance, including defining and clarifying the scope of work, ensuring the availability of required materials and equipment, and overseeing work execution to ensure adherence to safety and quality standards.
• Stay updated with advancements in industrial automation technology and recommend improvements to processes.
• Conduct feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses for automation projects.
• Monitor the achievement of departmental objectives and performance indicators, as well as track continuous improvement projects.
• Follow up on Management of Change (MOCs) requests and related tasks for system upgrades and ensure their implementation.
• Address incident reports within their scope of work and oversee the associated corrective actions.
• Regularly design, review, and update maintenance procedures for systems under their responsibility.
Educational Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering/Mechatronics or any related engineering field.
Professional Certifications and Training:
• Relevant certifications such as Certified Automation Professional - an additional advantage.
Work Experience
• 1-3 years of experience in designing, programming, and operating automation systems, preferably in an industrial environment.
Required Knowledge:
• Advanced knowledge of automation systems, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Human-Machine Interface (HMI), and other control systems.
• Knowledge of local and international engineering regulations and standards.
• Knowledge in the chemical industry and its specific automation requirements.
