Job Summary:
We're seeking an experienced L3 VMware Platform Operations Engineer to drive our global technical operations of VMware ESX within our Infrastructure Hosting Platform. You'll be at the forefront of developing and supporting the engineering and operations of VMware ESX-based Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) capabilities hosted both on-premises and in Microsoft Azure.
If you have a strong background in VMware administration, server consolidation, and thrive in large, geographically dispersed enterprise environments, this role is for you. You'll work with our most critical infrastructure, supporting sites in multi-datacenter stretch clusters. Our goal is to enhance infrastructure availability and reliability through repeatable patterns, innovative architectural designs, and improved observability to prevent outages and drive value across the organization.
In this role, you'll provide technical expertise and leadership, guiding operations teams and collaborating with other platform infrastructure SMEs to deliver daily operations effectively.

Key Responsibilities:
Installation and Configuration: Lead the installation and configuration of VMware ESXi hosts and vCenter across vSphere ensuring optimal performance and stability.
Upgrade and Maintenance: Perform upgrades of VMware environments using VMware Update Manager (VUM) and Lifecycle Manager, keeping systems up-to-date and secure.
Troubleshooting and Repair: Diagnose and resolve complex issues within the VMware infrastructure to minimize downtime and maintain service continuity.
Server Clustering: Manage the addition, modification, and deletion of server clusters within vCenters, including HA (High Availability), DRS (Distributed Resource Scheduler) clusters, and Metro Stretch Clusters.
Deployment: Oversee the deployment of virtual machines (VMs) and related resources, ensuring alignment with best practices and organizational standards.
Configuration Changes: Implement configuration changes in the VMware environment, maintaining thorough documentation and adhering to change management protocols.
Management and Monitoring: Utilize advanced management and monitoring tools to ensure the health, performance, and reliability of the VMware environment.
Automation Focused: Embrace an automation-first mindset, leveraging scripting and exposure to various tools to automate processes and improve efficiency.
Physical Hardware Management: Manage and maintain physical hardware across different vendors, ensuring devices are patched and running the latest firmware.
Site Setup: Lead the setup of new sites, configuring networks, and integrating them into the existing VMware environment seamlessly.
Networking: Deep understanding of networking concepts like VLANs and trunking. Configure and manage VMware networking components, including Distributed Switches (vDS), to ensure efficient and secure network communication.
Remote Support: Provide remote support to globally dispersed teams, ensuring consistent and reliable VMware services across all locations.
Collaboration: Work closely with other IT teams and vendors to implement and support innovative solutions, fostering a collaborative environment.
Technical Leadership: Provide expertise and leadership to turn ideas and concepts into effective solutions. Mentor team members and share knowledge to elevate team performance.
Infrastructure Optimization: Optimize, configure, and maintain private cloud infrastructure capabilities. Build, configure, and maintain systems to enhance overall performance.
Automation and Scripting: Utilize scripting languages and automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Python) to streamline operations and reduce manual efforts.
Physical Hardware Management: Manage and maintain physical hardware across different vendors, ensuring devices are patched and running the latest firmware.

Automation and Scripting: Utilize scripting languages and automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Python) to streamline operations and reduce manual efforts.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
Work closely with business units, application teams, and other IT departments to address requirements, dependencies, and operational needs.
Communicate effectively with stakeholders, providing updates on operational performance, projects, and incidents.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.(or equivalent experience).
Certifications: VMware certifications (e.g., VCP, VCAP) are highly desirable. Certifications in Linux, Windows, Dell SAN storage, or cloud platforms are a plus.
Experience: Minimum of 8+ years in VMware administration and operations.
Technical Skills:
VMware ESXi Proficiency: Expert in installation, configuration, verification, andmanagement of VMware ESXi hosts.
VMware Tools Expertise: Extensive experience with vCenter, VUM, Lifecycle Manager, and other VMware tools.
Clustering Technologies: Strong understanding of HA, DRS clusters, and Metro Stretch Clusters.
Server Clustering: Proven ability to add, modify, and delete server clusters within vCenters.
Networking Skills: Proficient in networking concepts such as VLANs, trunking, and VMware networking components like Distributed Switches (vDS).
Physical Hardware Knowledge: Experience managing physical hardware from various vendors, ensuring optimal operation through regular patching and firmware updates.
Automation Expertise: Skilled in scripting and automation using tools like PowerShell, Python, and familiarity with automation platforms.
Additional Skills:
Cloud Services: Knowledge and experience with Azure VMware Service and IaaS cloud services like AWS EC2 and Azure Compute.
Modern Toolsets: Familiarity with new-age management and monitoring tools.
Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of working across global and diverse teams.

Additional Information:
Role located in Hyderabad (relocation required)
Availability to work flexible work hours is/may be required.
