About the team
The Fixed Income departments at BlackRock, part of the comprehensive Portfolio Management Group (PMG), manage more than $2.5 trillion in fixed income assets across index, active, and the $307B liability driven strategies business. The PMG Fixed Income platform offers fixed income investors one of the industry's broadest array of investment choices across index, model-based and fundamental investment styles.
The Liability Driven Investment (LDI) business is a distinct part of Global Fixed Income which leverages the breadth and depth of the entire fixed income platform when delivering investment solutions for our clients. BlackRock has been managing LDI mandates for over 20 years. We are passionate about designing and implementing fixed income solutions to help, primarily, pension fund clients to meet their long-term investment objectives. We are an investment team with offices located in New York, Atlanta, San Francisco, London, Gurgaon, and Budapest split across Client Portfolio Management and Core Portfolio Management sub-teams. Our day to day activities range from monitoring the markets, modelling solutions and formulating the investment proposition, to trade construction, to designing the operational structure of the mandate and working with multiple BlackRock teams to implement it.
Key responsibilities
Designing, implementing and maintaining the technology platform on which core portfolio management processes are built and scale is delivered – including projects owned by core portfolio managers; client portfolio managers, and those which interface with dependent internal and external systems.
Understanding portfolio management processes, the data they use, the architecture they run on.
Designing, implementing and maintaining the technology platform and tools with a focus on driving forward new development requirements, managing production issues and streamlining existing processes.
Developing both prototypes and production tools
Applying quality software engineering practices through all phases of development, through to production.
Implementing processes to automate and streamline development, support, and technical management.
Debug and provide solutions to complex bugs within the technology space.
Develop reporting methods and analytics on new tools to ensure improvements can be measured
Upskilling and training Core PMs on new technology and assist in integrating into established processes
Partner with BlackRock Technology teams and the Core PM Architecture team to ensure existing platform and applications continue to evolve to support Core PM needs
Observing and contributing to improving best practices with regards to the governance of the codebase
Mentoring junior members of staff and providing local technology leadership
Skills and experience required
6 - 9 years’ experience as a Python Developer; proven experience in creating Python based applications
Solid quantitative background (at least BA/BS in IT, Computer Science or in a Technology-related field)
Strong focus on Python
Involvement in end-to-end development process, including turning requirements into code, and facilitating successful testing and release into production
Excellent verbal and written English skills
Problem-solving skills and process-oriented approach
Excellent teamwork and communication skills
Knowledge of Fixed Income markets beneficial
Knowledge of BlackRock Aladdin tools beneficial
Ability to understand diverse requirements from stakeholders and deliver on the key priorities.
Experience with Cloud platforms like Microsoft Azure is a plus.
Willingness to challenge processes, propose solutions and call out issues.
Strong attention to detail, organizational and time management skills.
Understanding of NO-SQL Databases is a plus
Solid understanding on Software Development Lifecycle
